I started off looking for a when it will happen, but found out I
couldn't even see an answer to if it would happen.
So have I been a shabby searcher, or could it be that Android 2.0 will
have a relationship to the open source repo thats' similar to IBMs
HTTP Server and Apache?
The latest word (from JBQ mostly, first via IRC and later on the
lists) is that someday it will be opened. (And the latest rumour,
leaked on a list earlier, was end of November.)
I'm not surprised they are waiting for the droid release.
(Disappointed but thats a big part of the AOSP experience.) Evidently
OHA members didn't even get it until a week or so ago.

There was another vaguely-definitive statement about it ("it will
happen, can't say when") that I can't find right now. (Maybe JBQ can
just make a new one?)

Thanks for the pointers, the first one sounds promising, but as I read
them the second one is JBQ stating it's not available at the moment,
which is completely true but doesn't indicate it will ever be available.
My only concern is that, as we all know, these things are out of JBQs
control, so I'd like to see either a statement in a press article from
the google management or (better still), some commits hitting the repo.

You're looking for an actual forward-looking public statement from
google? about -android-? Lemme know if you get one, that'd be a
remarkable reversal. (I do wish I could find that email - I swear,
there was a statement that it will happen in time.)
(For the second link, I was pointing out the specific message because
it seems to be a leak from inside. Course, its also a total
unsubstantiated internet rumour, so..)
Sure would be nice if that opensource roadmap was .. you know.. open
or something..

There are a number of things that need to happen before any
Open-Source release can happen, and those haven't all happened for
Eclair yet. For all I know all of those things will eventually happen.
The overall process for any such release routinely takes a few weeks,
depending of course on the size of the release, and Eclair is a big
release.
I'm afraid that's about all I'm allowed to say at the moment. As a
technical person, I can't make actual commitments or discuss specific
dates.
