Can I submit an app as a paid app from August 1st and still be
eligible for ADC2?
I know chances of anyone winning are slim so don't want all my hard
work meaning that I can't ever charge for my app. Even though I know
when I most likely don't win I can withdraw a free app and resubmit as
paid, history tells me that when an app starts out as free, the
expectation is that it will remain free and future sales will be poor
- so I would like to start from paid app and take my very slim chances
on ADC2.
The only limitation is that applications made available in the Android
Market prior to August 1 are ineligible. You may certainly make your
application available for free or paid on the Android Market after
August 1. Be aware, however, that the application submitted to the
challenge itself will be freely available to all Android users who
download the Challenge judging application to try their application on
the phone for scoring purposes.

ok cool - but what do people think. if i make paid app in early august
and then judges can download freely for 3 month period, does this mean
people don't respect the app as paid anymore and argue that it should
always be free, then cancel out any future sales for all apps that
don't win (i.e. 99% of them)?

You still can choose NOT to participate in ADC 2, thereby avoiding all
the problems you mention :-)

There was an nice article posted on someone's blog and previously
mentioned in the groups here, I think.
The content was about a Iphone paid app which becomes successful ONLY
after change it from paid to free and then back to Paid. Read that and
get some inspiration there ;)
I think you should get more worried about that the one available to
the judges being eventually distributed on alternative sites for free.
Actually, I think it is viable to build a site for exactly that
purpose and it may not violate any rules/laws. A database of apks
submitted by judges after they download and review it for
ADC2......Anyone building one? I am interested on that.
Cheers
Eric
