I'm really excited as I saw Android for the first time today and find it really great. I can't wait to just start developing and to execute my own Java programs on my new mobile phone (it seems that I will wait for a new mobile phone with Android on it instead of buying an OpenMoko right now).
As I took a look at the examples a music player is missing yet. Has anybody already started to write one? If not, I would like to start to write a nice and small music player for it (GPL, of course) - in the basic functions like AmaroK, with cover management etc.
Anybody here interested in starting such a project? :-)
I'm excited too with new Android's SDK. I think it would be a good idea to implement an Amarok like music player. I'm beggining with SDK but I'd like to help you to develop the music player if you like to.
Regards from Spain.

I'd be interested in getting into a music-player project, and stretching my Java legs again. As it's been a while since I've done some Java UI work, and Android's UI APIs look interesting. Regards, Glenn

Great, so we would be two in the moment. Do you already have a name for it? I would like to create an open source project @code.google where everybody can join it. The name does not have to be final (it would be nice if it would), but first we should have a code name for the project.
I don't think I'd be able to help with this, I'm kind of new to all these languages... but!
I do have a suggestion for the name, if you might like it. MusiK? Or... something like it? Emphasize the fact that you're going to use Amarok, which, if I'm not mistaken, is based on KDE.
But there's one /small/ problem concerning using amarok as a base (don't mean code-base - it is QT/C++ - but idea-base) - Amarok's UI is designed for large screens... (the incomming 2.0 especially)
We would need to think of the best approach for an audio player / organizer UI for embedded devices...
The things we could use from Amarok are: * smart playlists * auto scoring system * library (android has SQLite - YAY) * on-line music, music social networks (audioscrobber, lastfm, magnatune...) * context information (covers, lyrics...)

Maybe the application will be more like Xmms/Winamp.
I think that it is not possible (or very complicated) to have a big application like Amarok on a small screen. But, in any case, I m in for the project ;)

If i can find the time i will definitely try to contribute code / patches. I am really excited about the API's of google at the moment, i have worked with GWT, Maps and Gears. So if i can help then i would love to.
