Repurpose existing hardware. The new stuff is "sexy", but the old
stuff is already out there, just waiting for your apps!

According to this article (http://www.tech2.com/india/reviews/
multimedia-mobile-phones/motorola-razr2-v8/17461/0) there are 100
million RAZRs already. Most have Bluetooth, they have screens, and
some have GPS.

I have a couple of these older phones and would love to just replace
the Motorola OS with Android. Think of the millions of these RAZRs
that are going into drawers and trashcans about now.

What are the barriers to getting Android onto RAZR?

Thanks!

chipset. a RAZR isn't like a PC with an Intel chip. These chips do
very limited tasks and were not designed to handling an OS like
android. The problem with phones is you need to design for the
software, not for the other way around.

I have a Motorola Rokr E2 which have a 208MHz Intel XScale processor.
And it runs on a Linux-based OS.
I also have some softwares to write applicaitons to Rokr E2 - not Java
games, but OS and applications based on it.

So, if android can support the hardwares on Rokr E2, I think it's
possible to run on Motorola phone.

I believe http://code.google.com/android/kb/general.html answers your
questions quite frankly;

Can I write code for Android using C/C++?

No. Android applications are written using the Java programming
language.

Will Android run on insert phone here?

No.

AJ

p.s.; Motorola are part of the Open Handset Alliance (http://
www.openhandsetalliance.com/oha_members.html) and may very well
manufacture new phones to run ANDROID - I highly doubt they'd even
bother cross-porting or back-porting the ANDROID platform. I've only
heard rumours; but HTC are believed to be manufacturing the 'Omega' or
'Dream' for google (ANDROID) developers to play with.
