Hi,

May I add my son (15 yrs old) and my daughter (13) to my team? My son
contributes ideas, testing and documenatation, while my daughter
contributes icon/bitmap design and testing. Of course, I am the only
programmer :-(

We all live in California, USA.

I will appreciate any confirming response from Android.

Thank you and happy new year 2008!!

You say "Of course" as if 15 and 13 year olds can't program. I'll
tell you that I was much more efficient at programming at 13 than I am
now, minds slow down when you get to 20...

I suppose they are not allowed to participate, as legal age implies
(according to my understanding) the right to vote or the right to buy
alcoholic beverages, for example.

You can sign up as an individual, and pretend that you did all the
work by yourself. If Google finds out you secretly exploited child
labor, they may disqualify you from the competition for cheating.
(and if they did not, then some other participants who did not win in
the contest may try everything they can to let Google disqualify you).

I know, this sounds very wrong. There should have been an option for
families to participate and sign up together, if an adult is part of
the group. But, I did not make the rules.

Also, I don't know if your children could participate in an LLC that
you form. Then everything would be completely legal again, since only
you have to sign up for the whole business entity.

Also, I'm far from being a lawyer, so please correct me in any point
if I am wrong and please don't rely on my information, but wait for
someone from Google to officially clarify this.

PS:
The possibility of forming an LLC for the purpose of this competition
is also disussed here:

Hi Peli,

Thanks a lot for your kindly suggestions. Your diligent and honest
responses have been warming up the atmosphere here, which should have
been done by Google/Android folks.

Why aren't you one of Googlers/Androiders?

May I weakly and very weakly ask where they are?:?:-?

Regards,
Kyara

Thank you very much, I'm flattered. :-) Of course it is always easier
to give good advice as an outsider.

It is nevertheless important that Google gives an official statement
about whether children are allowed to contribute. I'm sure they are
working hard behind the scenes, and it is a non-trivial task to
include such possibility, given the international character of the
competition and different local laws that have to be taken into
consideration.

There are indications that Google is going to update the ADC
submission ( http://groups.google.com/group/android-challenge/browse_frm/thread/0eeca20962b07f9c#
), and if they do, it would be nice if they for example also
considered children's contributions as a legal part of an adult's
contribution.

After all, children make up a large fraction of the mobile market's
present and future, and it would be very unwise to annoy them right
from the start.

And kids can really have great ideas about what they want their phone
to be able to do:

I believe I do have a similar problem that has been bothering me about
doing this contest. I am a 17y/o Senior AP Computer Science High
School student. Now you may say I am not eligible to enter this
contest for obvious reasons, except, my birthday is March 3rd, the day
the contest submissions will no longer be taken.

To summarize, I will turn 18 on March 3rd, the last day of the
submission period. Am I allowed to enter an individual submission
early? And if so, would I be allowed to submit a group submission
within my High School?

Hi Peli,

Thanks a lot for your response.

Looks from no "official" answer, children or juniors' ideas seem not
attracting Google :-((
