With a new version of Android come a lot of questions and a lot of new
users on android-build. That's really great, I love to see the
enthusiasm!
Here are a few tricks to get the most value of the various AOSP Google
Groups, and especially android-building. Since android-building is
manually moderated for each message, going too far from those rules is
likely to cause your messages to get moderated away.
-Use the right group. Android-building is mostly about building the
platform code. Questions about the Android code itself are better
suited for android-platform, and questions about the kernel belong in
android-kernel.
-Please don't cross-post. Pick what you think is the most appropriate
group. Cross-posting guarantees that you're off-topic somewhere and
makes it hard to have a coherent discussion.
-Don't ask about issues you have with forks of AOSP. The licenses and
the tools we use for AOSP make it easy for people to fork it, but we
can't know what each maintainer does in their fork. If you're using
code from a fork and you're having issues with it, please direct all
your questions toward the maintainers of that fork.
-Finally, post new questions in new threads, with descriptive
subjects. That way, we can keep track of actual discussions and bring
new people in if necessary.
Thanks!
