You need to specify the value, for example #F18, where F is the value for
red, 1 is the value for green and 8 is the value for blue. It's the same as
html color codes so you can look those up if you like.

By the way, the background color of TextView(and other views) is set
by the attribute "android:background" not "android:shadowColor".

I've already read your posts on androidguys. Great posts, but didn't
help in what I want to accomplish. Thanks anyways.

I'm wondering if it would be possible to edit some System files to
accomplish what I need.... modify the EditText class...

I have downloaded and installed the ADT on Eclipse V3.4.0
But when I try to do this part of the guide:

I used XML and it works fine now, but I have another problem:

each item on my list has a button, I need to detect when they are
clicked and which one is clicked. I tried this:

I'm not sure that's possible.
Custom Intents have to be manually sent. If you invent an Intent out of
whole cloth, nothing in Android will know to send it except perhaps your
own code.

The documentation uses "#rgb" in the manner that CSS uses it, where the
'r', 'g', and 'b' represent a hexadecimal digit indicating the amount of
red, green, and blue to put into the color you are trying to define.
"#rrggbb" use two hexadecimal digits per color. "#aarrggbb" also includes
a two-digit hexadecimal value for the alpha channel (indicating opacity).

Salam,
I think you have already answered your question.Definitely you
have to type cast the integer to the string if the setText function did not
take values other than string.
