I set up analytics for a friend, a long time ago. They just emailed me
and said that GA has stopped collecting data.
I have tried to login -- and I get a 'Redirect Loop" error!
"Redirect Loop
Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for
this address in a way that will never complete....[etc/etc]
"
FF 3.0
I have cleared cookies, cache, ensured that JS is on -- still no dice.
I tried on IE 7.0 -- no dice.
Does anyone have an idea how this could happen and how I can fix it?
I use FF2, FF3 and Safari on Linux and MacOSx and IE6 on Windows
running in VMWare and don't have a problem logging in. Try accessing
your account using:

Hmm...nope. Still trying to do an endless redirect. Both IE7 and FF3,
winXP.
I even tried a co-worker's computer. I now suspect that there is
something funky on our network at work. I know that we are using Squid
as a caching proxy.

Tried from home -- same error. Effectively rules out network-related
issues.
So it must be somehow connected to problems with my account, right?
Does anyone here know if there is some way I can contact Google about
my inability to access my account? I'd be very happy to help them
troubleshoot so that others don't encounter the same problem.
If you clear all of your cookies and just go to www.google.com and
click "Sign In" at the top right. Then click "My Account" and select
Google Analytics, what happens?

I realized I could use HTTP LiveHeaders plugin for FF to peek behind
the curtain. Here's the setup:
Browser UI:
1. clear all cookies/cache
2. turn on LiveHeaders to capture
3. enter 'https://www.google.com/analytics/home/' 4. enter user/pass and hit 'Sign in'
5. get redirect loop error
Useful to have an editor with line numbers for this next bit. My
analysis:
Analysis of HTTP Headers:
1. Line 72 of the headers is the POST of my user/pass
2. Looks like a lot of cookie shuffling until line 130 where we see a
request for an 'http' page
3. Results in a 302 on line 144 for the same page (analytics/home)
using 'httpS'
4. Results in a 301 on line 167 for (analytics/settings)
5. Results in a 302 on line 187 for (/analytics/../analytics/home/
admin?gsessionid=DrUOhrhN5cg)
So it looks like i am going to the home admin page with a session
id in my query string....
6. Results in a 301 on line 211 for (analytics/settings)
7. Results in a 302 on line 233 for (/analytics/../analytics/home/
admin?gsessionid=erhfUh0SN_c)
I have a new session id but nothing has changed in the header
values otherwise...
8. Results in a 301 on line 256 for (analytics/settings)
Looks like the same state as step 4 of this list -- looping
9. All else follows the same loop -- redirecting from analytics/
settings to analytics/home/admin, getting a new session id, and
redirecting back to analytics settings.
Wow, this conversation is soooo over my head, so if you would rather
not dumb it down to my level, I understand. I had to join this
analytics group to post my question, so if I seem out of my league,
you're right.
I receive a similar redirect loop error as a new user of FF3 when I
try to load gmail calendar. I can load the gmail email page just fine.
And I can still load my calendar from IE7.

Hey Jeff!
I was hoping this thread would not get very technical, but somehow we
ended up here ;-)
Well, it sounds like my problem is a little different from yours --
mine is related to my account on the google servers. It sounds like
yours is at least partially a *browser*-based problem.
I dunno, beyond clearing your cookies and the cache and tryign again.
If that doesn't work, I would look for an add-on called "Live HTTP
Headers" and try capturing the output. BE CAREFUL! The trace file will
likely contain your password, so XXXXX it out. Then find the best
place to post that; it would'nt be this thread.
I was having the same problem. Opera9 just times out, IE7 times out,
FF3 gives me the 'Redirect Loop' error. This happened on my work PC
and on my home PC so it's not a problem on my end.
The problem is with the Google account. I created a new Google
account and was able to add analytics and login fine. I still can't
get anything with the old account though.
Well, it looks like this problem is beyond me. I think I will just go
ahead and try to delete my Analytics account. I *hope* wiht will then
be able to add it back in associated wiht my Gmail account, but who
really knows :-P

I have the same problem. I get the redirect error with both FF 3 and
Safari.
My friend also gets the same error, and he has an older Analytics
account as well.
Is it possible to just delete an Analytics account and make a new
one? Everything seems linked up with the main google account, and I
definitely don't want to delete that.

You should not have to delete your Analytics account. It's just a
matter of getting things "hooked up" correctly. Possibly you can try
signing up (or signing in if you already have one) to Google Website
Optimizer since it also uses Google Analytics as its back-end. That
may re-connect you to your account.

I have the same problem. My account was working just fine for the
past year, and then suddenly about a week ago it stopped working with
the same looping problem. I've tried logging in from different
computers, on a mac, on a pc, IE 6, IE 7, FF, Safari, etc .. but no
luck.

I never resolved this. I can't even delete my account.
Sigh.
I've had the same problem. Initially Analytics would go into a
redirect loop and then that inexplicably cleared up and I was able to
login. But when I try to access the Analytics tab from within adwords
I get the same loop. I managed to chat with a Google's Adwords
support crew regarding this and they asked me to send a screen-shot.
I did that - TWICE - with two different reps but still no response. I
suggest all who are facing this problem to login (create one if you
dont have) to your adwords account and corner somebody on chat and get
them to ask you to mail you a screen shot. I think the chat option
pops up with you first create your adwords account 'coz I cant seem to
find it anymore! If enough of us raise a stink maybe someone from
tech support will be assigned to sort it out.
