Hi all,

Next monday is the second monday of the month, so it's time for another ACK!

At ACK, we gather as a group of programmers interested in writing
code. It does not matter which language you write in, so anyone is
welcome.
At the last meeting of Devnology, we had a code fest where we
investigated the CSI technique of File Carving. A number of us were
interested in actually solving the puzzle were given, so expect at
least people hacking in Ruby and Haskell to try and solve the problem.

As usual, we gather at about 18.00 on the top floor of the public
library (OBA) in Amsterdam.
The top floor has a restaurant, so food and drinks can be bought there.

There is wifi, but there you'll have to get an access code for that.
Coverage has been a bit spotty in my experience, so don't depend on it
:)
Hope to see you all next monday!

Cheers,

Wes

I'll be there, so there really will be "people hacking in Haskell" ;-)

Hi there, people.

Unfortunately I can't make it today, I'm still quite tired from my
wild holidays in Sweden.

See you next time,
Javier.-

Oh, man, Sweden Rock was great! Unfortunately the weather wasn't that
kind this year but the people and the bands made it more than worthy! :D

Wes, would you mind writing a little summary of the File Carving
techniques explained at Devnology with the given puzzles later (Of
course, with the approval from our friends at Devnology!) ?

Bye for now,
Javier.-

Julio,

Jeroen, the speaker at Devnology, wrote a blog post on the Devnology
site, in Dutch, but all the links lead to English information sources.
The various wiki pages are probably a better way to get acquainted
with the subject of File Carving than the bits and incoherent pieces I
still remember.
http://devnology.nl/blog/7-verslagen/33-about-file-carving

Jeroen gave us two files, a 2 MB .dat file and a small text file to
describe the file format of the .dat file. He also gave us 5 questions
to answer about the contents of the file. I forgot the questions, but
since my goal is to build a parser for the file format, I don't care
too much about it. Having a parser can answer all the questions,
anyway.
I put the .dat file and the description in a .zip archive on my
server, http://files.narnach.com/DevnologyCSI.zip
If someone has more info, please do share.

Cheers,

Wes
