Ambition maintenance

It looks as though I am already able to add releases to
ambition.rubyforge.org. I released 0.5.4 using the code as of Chris's
last commit.
This should take care of this pesky problem:
ERROR: Error installing ambitious-activerecord:
ambitious-activerecord requires ambition (>= 0.5.3, runtime)

This means read-only functionality, to be clear. Adding writability
is feasible, but IIRC will require changes to the core. At this time,
therefore, Ambition adapters can be ORM supplements, but not
replacements.
I don't have time to actively develop Ambition (yet), but I am willing

It's pretty dead unless people want to step up and take over. Most of
the future work needs to be done with adapters - the core should be
more or less complete. It probably has bugs, but I think a lot of the
functionality is there. So hopefully people pick up the torch and

I read about ambition some time back, when it just started.
While very interested, I never checked it out, wanted it to mature a
bit more.

Now, I have to port some native rails activerecord projects to use
some kind of soap-server to get many of its data/statistics. I

I'm having the same problem. I've done a little digging and I think
the problem is within Ambition::API#size, but I can't remember as I've
since patched my local copy of ambition.

I'm also having problems with record.association.count, where
association is a has_many - I'm getting a 'wrong number of arguments'

Hi,

I'm doing a count of a large data set:

RegressionData.count

which I expect to emit the SQL (using MySQL):

SELECT count(*) AS count_all FROM `regression_data`

but instead I get

SELECT * FROM `regression_data`

when using ambition and given that there are 130K entries it's a bit

Hi,

I can't say if the patch is a good idea or not but I thought that the
recommended way to handle this would be to move params[:login] + '%'
into a variable and compare against that.

e.g. (untested)

Hi,

when using params[:something] in a select block like :
User.select { |u| u.login =~ params[:login] + "%" }

I get this :

Missing process method for sexp: [:vcall, :params]

If I patch ruby2ruby.rb and add a method like this :

def process_vcall(exp)
exp.shift.to_s
end

It works, but is that a good solution ?

Just to be as clear as possible, I git cloned today and the versions
for the gems are as follows:

ambition-0.5.4
ambitious-activerecord-0.1.3

If I check the gem dependencies using "rake gems", it shows them both
as properly frozen. I have tried the ambition command from the rails
application itself and from the console with the exact same result.

I am having quite a bit of problems with ambition. First, I was unable
to actually get it to install:

$ sudo gem install ambitious-activerecord

Once I installed Echoe (echoe) I was able to rake install_gem on both
Ambition 0.5.4 and ambitious-activerecord.

Unfortunately, this doesn't work with STI, so I'm back to square zero.

You can run `rake gem && gem install pkg/*.gem` to install it as a
gem. You might also have luck with rake install, or rake install_gem.
I didn't, but I assume that's because I'm on Windows.
