1) Shabbat Morning Minyan, February 27th, 10:00 am
Altshul will meet Shabbat morning, February 27th, in the Rabbi’s
Office at Congregation Beth Elohim, 274 Garfield Place, Brooklyn, NY
11215. Kindershul will start at the beginning of the torah service
2) Purim Megillah Readings, Motzei Shabbat 2/27 and Sunday Morning
2/28
Altshul will be hosting services and megillah reading on both the
night and the morning of Purim. Services will take place Saturday
2/27 at 7 pm, and Sunday 2/28 at 10 am. Please bring a copy of the
megillah, if you have one, to both readings, and a siddur with weekday
morning davenning to the Sunday morning service. The service Motzash
will be followed by the Altshul Purim Party…

PURIM ANNOUNCEMENTS
4) Purim Protocol for the Young or Overly Social
We're asking Altshulers to remain quiet during the entirety of the
megillah reading in order to allow those who wish to fulfill the
halachic obligation to hear every word of the megillah. We've set
aside the Social Hall for those who wish to take a break from the
megillah reading -- please feel free use that room for conversation.
5) TWO Opportunities for Social Action at Megillah Reading on Saturday
Night
A. Matanot Le'evyonim, Gifts to the Poor: In honor of the tradition of
giving tzedakah (charity) to those in need on Purim, Altshul's Social
Action/Social Justice Committee is collecting donations for two
organizations that serve the hungry and impoverished: the Metropolitan
Council on Jewish Poverty and Mazon. Please bring cash to donate. More
information about each organization will be available at the donation
table.
B. Swab a Cheek, Save a Life: After Megillah reading, stop by the
"Gift of Life" Bone Marrow Drive table. With just a brief, painless
swab of the inside of your cheek, you may be a match for someone in
need of a bone marrow donation-- and a hero for someone with cancer.

7) Israeli GLBT Activist at CBE 3/7
Mike Hamel, chairperson of the Aguda, The National Association of GLBT
in Israel, will be speaking in Brooklyn on Sunday, March 7, from 11
a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Congregation Beth Elohim, 274 Garfield Place.
Mr. Hamel is a leading authority on the human and social rights of
the GLBT community in Israel. He will be accompanied by youths who
were involved with the horrible shooting that took place last August
in the Gay Youth Center in Tel Aviv.
This event is co-sponsored by Congregation Beth Elohim, the New
Israel Fund, and several other groups
8) Jewish Funds for Justice Community organizing Residency
Interested in a career in meaningful social change work? The
Community Organizing Residency (COR), is a new initiative of the
Jewish Funds for Justice. COR is a six-month, paid residency for
people from Jewish, Muslim, Christian and other faith backgrounds who
want to make community organizing their profession. Residents will
gain social justice experience working with leading organizing groups
in New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, and the San Francisco Bay
Area. The Application Deadline is April 2, 2010; the application and
more information can be found at www.rootedinfaith.org
