THIS WEEK
1) Shabbat Morning Minyan, January 30th, 10:00 am + Tu Bishvat Lunch
and Learn
Altshul will meet Shabbat morning, January 30th, in the Rabbi’s
Office at Congregation Beth Elohim, 274 Garfield Place, Brooklyn, NY
11215. Kindershul will start at the beginning of the torah service.
Altshul will be hosting a vegetarian potluck lunch and learn after
services. The topic is "Is God in Your W-2 Form? Tu B'shevat and the
Spiritual Responsibility of Money" and Shuli Passow will be our
teacher. RSVP to Sara - saran...@hotmail.com if you plan to attend,
and please indicate what you plan to bring, so that we can make sure
to have a nice balance of food (i.e. not just challah and cookies).
Please note Altshul's kashrut policy: all food must be prepared in a
kosher or strictly vegetarian kitchen.

Sunday, February 21st: Hamentaschen Baking, Mishloach Manot Packing to
Donate
In honor of Purim, come bake hamentaschen and pack Mishloach Manot
(gift bags) to donate to the residents at the Cobble Hill Health
Center, a nursing home in Carroll Gardens.
5) Purim Megillah Readings, Motzei Shabbat 2/27 and Sunday Morning

Altshul will be hosting services and megillah reading both the night
and the morning of Purim. We will also be sponsoring a party after

6) Hazon's Tu Bishvat Seder and Shabbat Dinner
Join Hazon for Shabbat dinner and a Tu Bishvat Seder at the JCC
Manhattan on Friday, January 29 at 8 pm. Our meal will be kosher,
dairy, delicious and seasonal. Tu Bishvat, which has become the
“Jewish Earth Day,” marks the “New Year of Trees” and is celebrated by
planting trees, and eating dried fruits and nuts. Come celebrate and
learn from leading educators and activists about the connections
between Jewish tradition, the environment and the food we eat. The

Yeshivat Hadar, North America's first full-time egalitarian yeshiva,
is now accepting applications for its Summer 2010 and Full-Year
2010-2011 programs in New York City. Men and women looking for
intense traditional text study, egalitarian prayer, and social action,

10) Brooklyn Israel Film Festival, 1/28, 30, 31
The Brooklyn Israel Film Festival returns
to Kane Street Synagogue starting Thursday, January 28, and continuing
January 30 and 31.
The festival offers a fascinating mix of films and guest speakers.
