Hi Music Fans,

I realize that most of my mailing list is in the Washington, DC area, but there may be a few of you who are interested in this weekend's Monteverdi extravaganza in Denver and Boulder, Colorado. I'm having a great time out here in the Rocky Mountain State working with some incredible musicians and bringing this 400 year old music to life! Here are all the details - please forward this announcement if you have friends and family in the Colorado area.

celebrating 400 years since the publication of Claudio Monteverdi's Vespers of 1610

Colorado joins the international celebration of the 400th anniversary of the Monteverdi Vespers publication. Don't miss Colorado's only performances of the Vespers or an evening of early Italian vocal and instrumental chamber music on period instruments.

The Monteverdi Vespers of 1610 will be performed with period instruments in Boulder, CO, Saturday, October 23, and in Denver, Sunday, October 24. The Monteverdi Soloists, experts in early Italian music, will give a separate concert in Denver (St. John's Cathedral) on Friday, October 22. Join in the Colorado celebration of 400 years since the publication of this timeless work.

Preferred seats may be purchased for $35. General admission, seniors and student discount tickets will be available at the door or tickets may be reserved and purchased by donation.

Virtuosic Music of the Early Baroque

Virtuosic singers and period instrument players perform Italian music of the early 1600s, including works by Frescobaldi, Castello, Monteverdi, Cima and Cesare. The Monteverdi Soloists include renowned early music specialists from the Netherlands, the U.S. East and West coasts and the Boulder/Denver area: Amanda Balestrieri (soprano), Marjorie Bunday (mezzo-soprano), Daniel Hutchings (tenor), Robert Gardner (baritone), Baroque violinist Mimi Mitchell from Amsterdam, James Miller from New York on cornetto, and Michael Holmes from Washington DC on sackbut, with Bennet Cohen, theorbo, and Lara Turner, Baroque cello on continuo.

This concert is a prelude to Colorado's only scheduled anniversary performance of the Monteverdi Vespers of 1610 in Denver and Boulder.

Attend Colorado's only production of Claudio Monteverdi's Vespers in the 400th anniversary year of the work's publication. The music marks a turning point from the polyphony of the Renaissance to the melodic and virtuosic music of the early Baroque, and this thrilling and glorious work will be performed by a period instrument orchestra and double choir. Presented with internationally known early music specialists under the direction of Evanne Browne, Director of Music, and an expanded choir from First United Methodist Church and the Boulder community.

The vocal soloists for the Monteverdi Vespers are Amanda Balestrieri, soprano; Marjorie Bunday, mezzo soprano; MB Krueger, alto; Daniel Hutchings, Paul Stuber and Philip Fryer, tenors; Robert Gardner, baritone and Paul Munsch, bass. Instrumentalists are James Miller, William Adams, and Steven-Jon Billings, cornetto; James Gray, Michael Holmes and David Searle, sackbut; Linda Lunbeck and Michael Lightner, recorders; Mimi Mitchell and Stacey Brady, Baroque violins; Lara Turner, Baroque Cello; Bennett Cohen, archlute; Debra Throgmorton, harpsichord; and Gerald Holbrook, portative organ.
