Happy Halloween, folks. I'll be spending my evening getting my treats
ready: Inner Swines, of course! Last year my house got one hell of an
egging after a day a day spent giving away tasty morsels of Swine
readin', but it's good for the little boogers.

Anyway, made it to the PO Box and here's what I found:

- Negative Capability #4 ($4 [$5 Canada]), Josh Saitz, PO Box 12, Lenox
Hill Station, NY NY 10021-0030; www.negcap.com). Okay, I didn't actually
get this in the PO Box. Josh actually couriered it to my job in
Manhattan after I was unable to attend his launch party, very nice of
him. As usual the magazine looks fantastic, one of those zines you see
on a rack, look at the price, and think, "Four bucks! I'm fucking
outraged! I'm---oh, wait, actually this does look worth Four bucks..."
and then slink off to complain about something else. I often suffer
Design Envy when comparing NC to my own piddling zine, but booze usually
assuages that.

- Chaos #20 (Free, Usurp Toe Comix, usur...@cox.net;
members.cox.net/usurptoe). A dense b&W comic called The Clowns of War.
Why not? It's free and very clearly printed and looks interesting at
first glance.

- A mysterious cassette tape labeled "Jeff Somers is King" which arrived
in plain brown wrapper from Virginia. Why am I worried that if I listen
to it I'll be enslaved mentally? It sits here on my desk, mocking me. Of
course, I'll have to find a cassette player, which I haven't owned since
2002.

And that's it. Go dress up and scam free treats, kids.

That's awesome, have you played it yet?

I got this email the other day, I'm not sure quite what to make of it:

" Tablet! You are now under attack! There is no escape. In the future you
may find yourself walking down a familiar street, enjoying a live
performance of a band near to your heart, or casually sipping a martini at a
comfortable dive bar when you suddenly find yourself experiencing
mathematics in ways you did not know were possible. It is not safe to go
into this experience without first joining forces with me. Accept this offer
or find yourself meeting the cold embrace of regret. -Mathematicattack!"

I'm terrified of it. I've put it in the freezer.

Actually, I'll play it once I get a tape player here. It's been a while
since I had one set up and ready to go.
