Rick was a writer, musician, cartoonist and critic who was active in
self-publishing for many years. He published and contributed to many comics
and zines. We loved the guy.

anything that starts with "According to Will Dockery" needs to find a better
source.

some CD's & other things. Included was a short newsletter titled
Typical Studies. I found it's simplicity, hand-drawn graphics and
selection of quaint old portrait paintings and photos very appealling,
as well as the personality of the author. Seeing that this zinester
worked as a janitor, I was pleased that there was another "unskilled
laborer intellectual" on this earth. For some reason, though I liked
the zine and was intrigued by the personality, it was only recently
that I noticed his name, Rick Howe.
For a long time I thought, "I've got to send this person a zine and
request a trade, and let him know I enjoyed his zine". As usual, I
procrastinated and never got around to it. As this zine was dated
February, 2002, I half rationalized that it may be too late anyway.
Anyway, for what it's worth, I was glad to have "met" Rick, who seemed
to be a rare, gentle, intelligent soul, and will put his zine in my
box of keepers.

Will Dockery
Yes, Rick was a great person and even greater artist, on any level he
set his mind to. Great folk rock guitarist, who I collaborated with
during the late 1980s and early 90s on quite a few songs, along with
George Sulzbach.
Steve Keeter has some of Rick's songs he transferred from cassette to
CD, which should become available in the small press/zine circles
soon.
