I prefer simple JavaScript and apache's mod_rewrite tricks.
mod_rewrite replaces all marked images with empty one.
JavaScript replaces all marked images with original images from different
location - hidden from bad guys.

really don't have enough of a demand for it to justify signing up for
a merchant account. Most of my customers pay in person or by mailing

Yeah, I understand the wiki-part, hence the subversion hint; you can
give only a few people access.

difference between the current version and the new version, so it makes

There's also a neat trick that makes logged-in Myspace users log out.
(That link has nothing to do with me, but I use the rule I found
there.)

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be an equivalent for Facebook, so
I just use "evil-animated-slow.gif" for that referer match.

That's the beauty of subversion, it's all about keeping things in
sync. Also, I probably could write a Perl program that formats the text
FAQ into a web version ;-)

Forgot to mention one other thing; There are actually two copies of the
FAQ -- the online version and the text file that Heidi posts every week.
We don't want to encourage a lot of changes because it'll make it much
more difficult to keep both copies in sync.

I don't want to turn the FAQ into a Wiki-like document. And besides, we
get very few requests for changes. Up until a couple of weeks ago the
FAQ hadn't been changed since 2006.
Most of the "regulars" here don't pay any attention to the FAQ. Any
substantive changes need to be posted in the newsgroup so that others

Maybe put the FAQ under subversion control so people can contribute?
Subversion might sound like magic, but it's basically editing a file,
saving it, and then via another application (think of it as FTP)
submitting it to a site. With the submit you can add a comment why
changes were made, or a summary.
