At Christmas the Greeks have , like every country, certain foods that
they like to make to celebrate the festive season.
On our site www.greekfoodsdirect.com we will be posting certain
selected Christmas recipes to get you in the spirit!

Kourabiedes
(Greek Shortbread)

2 cups butter
½ cup sugar
2 egg yolks
4-5 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon vanilla powder
1 small coffee cup brandy or ouzo
1 kilo icing sugar

Method
In a bowl cream the butter, until smooth.
Add the egg yolks and the sugar and continue to beat until the
ingredients have mixed well.
Still stirring add the brandy or ouzo.
Into the mixture sift the flour, baking powder and vanilla powder.
Knead well to make the dough.
Break the dough into pieces and roll these pieces into balls.
Place on a baking tray and bake at 180*C for between 15 - 20 minutes.
Once cooked leave to cool on a wire tray.

Before serving arrange on a plate, in layers.
Shake icing sugar, thickly, over each layer. There should be enough to
cover the biscuits completely and thickly.
