I have 2 things that open on startup that I can't seem to get rid of. One is
the Norton folder, and the other is internet explorer. There must be some
place where windows remembers the last windows you had open, and reopens
them on startup where these need to be deleted. Any help would be
appreciated

Hi,

I think, the problem is caused by the broken links to the auto started
programs in registry.
Try the RegRun II:
http://www.regrun.com
This is a powerful startup manager. It has a special report for broken
links.

Best wishes,

Have you looked in the Startup folder? Start>Programs>Startup

I also tried the recommended program, but it didn't show anything new.

What is going on is analogous to your restarting your computer, with a few
programs up. when it restarts, it puts the desktop in the same state (same
programs/windows open). It is like 2 windows are "stuck", and re open no
matter what the state of the desktop when restarting

try start, run and write msconfig look at what you have under starup
folders. you can try to delete some links there. dont worry because as
soon as you choose normal start on general tab they will be back. once
you have found out which links you don´t want then you can go to
regedit look under hklm. software. microsoft, windows, current
version . run and run services and delete them. take a look at hkcu
and follow the same route. impårtant do not delete scanregw.

been there, done that. The files do not appear in the registry, or anywhere in msconfig.

Open windows explorer, now open a partucular folder. restart, and the folder is still there. Find where windoes saves the previouswindows settings. I can't seem to do it.

If this started to happen only recently you could try and replace your
currebt registry with an older one: reboot to DOS and at the prompt
type: scanreg /restore

Have any clue what interaction started your problem?

You might want to check the win.ini file in msconfig. Click the + next to
'windows' and see if the offending programs are listed there as a 'run=', if
so, uncheck them and restart. Might be a solution...luck...
