I want to create a partition on my harddrive, but don't want to reformat or
reinstall windows. There is a package called Partition Magic that does the
job, but being a tight git I don't want to pay Ł60 for it. Does anyone
know of a freeware utility that will do the same job ??

Thanks

Tony

I've never used it but you might want to take a look here:

Sure Theres a program called fips that will resize partitions. Here
is a tutorial on it

http://www.gnulinux.com/dual/fips.shtml

You should be able to find fips anywhere. It usually used with a Linux
install in the dosutils folder.

Windows may spit the dummy after you use fips as the partition will have
changed size. Don't worry just shut down and restart and all should be well.

I have to comment...a tight girl? cool.

sorry, I know a site to get partition magic 6.0 for free, but I don't want
to promote warez here anymore...for fear of hatred by most users of this
group.

Tony,

BootIt Next Generation - New Partitioning Product

BootIt Next Generation (NG) does everything that PartitionMagic (PM)
does and more. PM limits the user to *4* partitions while NG can have
*over* 200. PM comes with Magic Mover, a program that will align
everything when there is a partition letter change. NG does not have this
feature; however, if you need this capability, Change of Address (COA32)
is a free program available at:
http://www.zdnet.com/downloads/stories/info/0,,000OD7,.html

NG, which has more capabilities, costs $29.95; while PM costs $69.95.
BootIt NG is available from TeraByte Unlimited:
http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/

There is a NG support site to help out people who are new to partitioning.
The site is located at:
http://members.home.com/dts-l/bootitng/ng.htm

John,

Your information is inaccurate. Check the following quote from DriveImage
4.0 by PowerQuest, concerning partition management.

"Partition Types

There are three kinds of partitions: primary, extended, and logical.
Primary and extended
partitions are the main disk divisions; one hard disk may contain up to
four primary
partitions, or three primary partitions and one extended partition. The
extended partition
can then be further divided into any number of logical partitions."

Partition Magic can set up any number of logical partitions you wish.
