I also have similar problems to "Steve" <steve...@hotmail.com>.
I have a new motherboard (AMD Duron) which came with a built-in budget
Roland Sound Canvas (ie, attached to the motherboard, not a seperate card)
and the chap who put it together for me also upgraded me to 98.
All my MIDI applications such as Encore, Cakewalk, Cubase, Sibelius,
etc, are okay playing back all their respective files (the sound is
reasonable but I liked my old Ensoniq Soundscape - of course it can't
function in the new machine, it's too old, god technology pisses me off
sometimes). I cannot for the life of me, input notes via any of my MIDI
synths thru the joystick port as I been doing for years.
According to Windows, the port driver is working, but who believes
Windows??
Any help at all on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Could it be something as basic as getting a new MIDI breakout cable?
However, it worked perfectly on the old machine, so ....?
Any help anyone?
Thanks,
Matthew Atherton.
frustrated composer who is happier with pencil and paper right now.

Why can't you run the old board?
I'm still running an ISA AWE 64 with this set up.
