I am running XP Pro SP3, in the Dutch localization.
I am translating back, so my wording may be different...

I want to create a limited access account auto, so I login as administrator,
and I do:
Configuration => User accounts ==> add
Name: auto, no password
Next => limited access
Finish

Now I get a message: Cannot give limited access to user computer-name\auto
because computer-name\auto does not exist

Duh.. of course it does not exist. But how can I create an account if it has
to exist first?

I did not install the software on this computer. Maybe the previous
administrator set some options that I do not know about. Any suggestions are
welcome.

Huh. It works for me.

Try creating the user first as an administrator, then change the type to
limited afterward (at the User Accounts control panel, click the "auto" user,
then "Change the account type", then "Limited").

If that doesn't work, do it from the MMC console:
- Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management
- Local Users and Groups -> Users
- Action menu -> New User... (make sure no other user is selected first)
- Fill in the blanks, then click Create
- Select your new user, then Action menu -> Properties
- Under "Member Of" tab, select appropriate groups (should default
to "Users", which is the same as "Limited" on the User Accounts
control panel) then click OK

If *that* doesn't work, I don't know what to tell you.

This is how it all ends! ...Okay, no, it ends with teddy bears
dancing in the forest, but this is the important midway point!

Obviously, something's gone wrong with your macine. No idea what it might be,
though.

Good to hear.
