WAV as an option for ripping in WMP

Hi.
On certain windows XP computers, it seems that WAV is not available
as an option for the desired file format for ripping an audio CD
in Windows Media Player (version 11).
What would be the easiest way to ensure that WAV is also available
as an option for the format for ripping an audio CD?
Perhaps a codec pack that I could install that makes this format
available in the ripping options?

It will rip to mp3 and wav formats, while adding a certain amount of
metadata to the mp3 files.

downloading a codec so this WAV option becomes available in WMP.
Presumably I can simply install the popular K-lite codec pack,
but I was hoping that there is perhaps a specific WAV codec
available from a microsoft website that would be smaller and
easier to install.

The number of options available in the k-lite codec pack can be
a bit intimidating and perhaps it's also a bit overkill when one
is really only interested in codecs suitable for the WAV format.

Audio content that is compressed with a wide variety of codecs and that is stored in a .wav file can be played back in Windows Media Player if the appropriate codecs are installed on the computer. the necessary uncompressed WAV codec (PCM) as standard.
So, the real question is "why isn't it working?"
Do you actually even see "WAV" as an option when ripping?
If not, then it could be that registry entries associated with
WMP are damaged (typically by 3rd-party software such a registry
cleaners, or other media apps.)
Try uninstalling then reinstalling Windows Media Player 11.
