Humming softly to herself, Lessa made her way down the pale stone
walkway that led to the Water Garden. She had been born and raised in
a bustling seaside village on the coast of Tear, and though the
streams and pools of the Water Garden were no match for the crashing
of the waves, it was one of her favorite places on the Tower grounds.
Water was also her most proficient element; no doubt the reason she
often found herself teaching Water weaves.

Finding an empty bench next to one of the larger pools, Lessa
paused to brush it off to avoid getting dirt on her banded Accepted's
dress. *Curse the woman who decided we should all wear white!* she
thought.

No sooner had she sat down then the crunch of footsteps on gravel
became apparent, followed by a head poking over one of the bushes.

"Are you Senna?" Lessa asked.

"Yes," came the reply.

"Then you're my next lesson. I am Accepted Lessa; Alanys Sedai
asked me to instruct you in some basic Water weaves. Come on over and
have a seat."

When they were settled, Lessa launched into her lecture. "Water is
generally one of the easiest elements for women to handle, which is
one reason that we teach it early on. Threads of Water are associated
with the color blue, which should help you distinguish it from other
elements, although mixing up Water and Air is not an uncommon mistake
in beginners. Water weaves have many uses: you can quell or create
waves, start whirlpools, move small amounts of water from one place to
another, and so forth."

With that, Lessa embraced saidar and separated out thin threads of
water. She scooped out a sphere of liquid no bigger than her fist and
let it float about a foot over the surface of the pool. She changed
the shape of the weave slowly, forming the water into a glistening
square (albeit one with slightly round corners) and a small pyramid
before releasing the weave.

"Now," Lessa said, producing a small set of bowls. "Your first task
will be to move a small amount of water from the pool into this bowl.
Take your time, and feel free to ask me any questions."

OOC: Hey wow! Thanks for all the lessons. Two in a week!

IC: Senna watched the woman weave threads of water. It was different
from
air in tht it seemed much more fluid. It was fascinating to watch. Upon
hearing that most novices mistake it for air she concentrated very carefully
on the differences. When it was her turn she thought she had a good idea
where to start.
Embracing saidar she concentrated on the feel of water and how it had
seemed when she was observing Lessa. Just like she did with the balls in the
last lesson she separated out strands and sort of wrapped them around some
of the water. It was kind of slippery and not very easy to hold rigid but
she found if she gave a little slack it worked. That must have been the
reason for the rounded corners. It was a bit clumsy and she dropped it once
but she finally managed to get the water into all of the bowls. Senna was in
awe at the capabilities of saidar even in these simple lessons. It was like
a whole new world opening up even to the smallest detail.
Looking up at the accepted finally she asked, "How did I do?"

OOC: No problem, hun - it's what we're here for :) As a note, posts
tend to flow a little better if you bottom post and snip text you
don't need, but that's just a format nitpick on my part :)

> Looking up at the accepted finally she asked, "How did I do?"

"Not bad, Senna," Lessa remarked, nodding approvingly. "Not bad at
all. Now, practice that same weave for a bit, moving the water back
and forth between bowls. Not the most exciting task, I realize, but
you will find that the process becomes smoother and simpler with
practice."

Lessa watched patiently as Senna floated small balls of water from
bowl to bowl, dropping the liquid carefully and gathering it all back
up again. Lessa stopped to move the bowls further and further apart
every so often, until she was confident the girl could practically
perform the simple weave in her sleep.

"Very good," said Lessa, gathering up two of the bowls and moving them
so they only sat a few inches apart. "This next weave also moves
water, but it can be somewhat harder to control." She embraced saidar
to demonstrate, and a small column of water arched out of the bowl on
the left and splashed gently into the bowl on the right. "Perform this
weave with too much force and you'll make a mess. It acts in the
manner of a siphon, so if you're pulling water from an unlimited
source, a lake or river or some such, it can take some effort to stop.
With the bowls, however, you should not have a problem."

Don't blame her too much, she uses Outlook Express, which for aome assinine
reason defaults to top posting, and lacks a bottom post option as far as
I've seen. :) Some of the vets know it and fix it manually, but cut her a
bit more slack. (I use OE, too, feel sorry for me.)

OOC: huh?? I'm a geek and don't even know what you mean! :) My posts usually
go to the bottom of the thread but Outlook deletes things after a certain
amount of days so now my post is on top and Lessa's lesson is no longer
there. Any tips?

no, where you type.

you should type a response AFTER the text you're responding too.For Example:

--------------------------------------------
My Response
Here

Old Message By Bluoewolf

is the wrong way.

is the right way.

Just type after what you're responding to.

Its not a hard rule or law of usenet, just a bit of net etiqute.

I usually just erase everything and then type. I like working on a clean
slate. That way it's not cluttered. I figure people should have already
read the thread before so... yeah. Although if there's an active convo
going on I usually leave that snippage in and respond to it.

That's just me anyway.

As for the Outlook Express deleting actual threads, you can go to tools -->
options, then to the maintenance tab. There should be an option tabbed
under the area "compact messages in background" (the third checkbox) and
beneath there should be something like "delete news messages after __ days"
and "delete news messages after read." Unchecking those two (or making sure
they are unchecked) should insure news messages to stay in Outlooks for your
viewing pleasure whenever you want.

Or something like that.
