I know what kind of dress... it needs to be coral pink or teal polyester
crepe, with a large tunic-type top encrusted with iridescent sequins.
Make sure it clashes with the bridesmaids.

Or maybe it should be a white form-fitting dress, like the one shown on
Town & Country magazine's wedding web site. I mean, why should the bride
be the only one who gets to wear a white dress?

#ducking#

But seriously, Nancey, don't stress too much. If your Mom has a certain
dress in mind, let her run with the idea. It's a lot easier for you in
the long run, and you won't hear any complaints.

Good luck!

so but I need to rant

I spend 11 hours going through 3 different cities and every store that was
in them trying to find a dress for my mother. She didn't like any of them,
now I seen several that would have looked good on her, but she always found
some little thing wrong with them.

She says the mother of the bride has to wear a certain type of dress.
Could some one please tell me what it is so I can find her on.(51 days to
go Sept 13)

thanks I feel better already

Is there some reason why your mother can't go out and find her own
dress? (I'm not being snotty here...I just wonder if there is some reason
you haven't mentioned that would prevent her from shopping for herself,
since normally the mother of the bride selects and buys her own attire
for the wedding.)

As far as I know, if it's a formal wedding, she needs to wear a
tasteful, formal dress suitable for the occasion. Other than that, there
isn't a specific "type" of dress required. The clerks at any formalwear
or nice department store should be able to help her make an appropriate
selection.

she doesn't drive and we live in a small town (6000 people) so I drove her
to the nearest bigger shopping areas

This would be funnier if this wasn't the exact type of thing my mom would
pick out
:/ :P

Yep, I know this one, September 13, and a mother who won't even shop!! She
has always been insecure about her weight, but honestly I have always
thought she looks great, No one even beleives she is old enough to be my
mother!! Anyway who might carry a nice dress (informal wedding) off the
rack, for a larger size woman that isn't the equivalant of a sequined
tunic?? My mom looks great in more tailored outfits.

Nancey-
Your mother must be my mother's twin! She *ordered* a dress 28 days
before the wedding, and had to pay extra too have it rushed. I was not
covinced it would get here, so I had dresses picked out just in case
that I could return. If it got down close enough to the wire, she
would have worn at least one of them.
The dress came in, and I think she had some alterations, but she
did not have time to have shoes dyed, and got frustrated looking for
shoes too match (since the wedding was 48 hours away). So, ya know
what she did? She spray painted them. This I discovered about 8
minutes before walking down the aisle. I can't remember if it was just
my sister and I with her when we discovered it or not, but I was
pretty embarressed.

Good Luck!

Depending on the time of day of the wedding, even a dressy suit is nice.
You could also find a good tailor and have something made and even make
design changes to suit her tastes. It could be eaiser than scouring the
countryside.

I missed the very beginning of this thread, I think.
Let me say this about that....
Mom thinks the MOB has to wear a certain kind of dress? Can she identify
what type that is? Here's my take on it: Something dressier than what she
usually wears (this is, after all, your Nuptials and Grand Soiree). Something
befitting the hostess of a lovely party. Maybe the frou-frou will be in
accessories rather than fabric. I've known women who spent more on the
costume jewelry that "made" the outfit than the outfit itself.

She will be radiant from within if she is comfortable first.
I am a size 22-24 found a 2-piece dress/jacket at Nordstrom. Periwinkle
blurple. Tank style dress, unfitted, with a 3/4 length jacket over.
Looked fab with my hair color (more white than not).
I was the cat's meow! It didn't require industrial trusses beneath.
See pix at: http:www.lpl.arizona.edu/~schaller/Barb/wedding.html

Someone else along the way here is looking for MOB frocks for informal event.
Had a look at Lane Bryant? August Max? Encore at Nordstrom. Macy Woman.
Jacque Penney? Sears. Do not rule out any shop because of a perception of
the type/quality of its merchandise. Pull out the stops on this hunt.
Know a seamstress?
Can't envision fabrics and patterns? (I can't!) Have the seamstress help with
pattern and fabric selection.

Go, Woman! Time's a-wasting!

the dearth of regrets that were coming in.....

Sure sounds like a MOB dress to me!

Me, I'm gonna wear a dress I've had in my closet for about three years.
I've probably worn it three times to casually dressy events. I like it,
it looks great on me, and it's comfy. And I can't see spending yet more
beaucoup bucks on something hardly anyone's gonna notice anyway!

But I liked your suggestion about accessories. I'm generally accessory
impaired, but I'll look around for some killer earrings, and maybe a hat!
