My fiancee and I will be interviewing florists this week. In order to
budget how much flowers will cost I feel that I should decide on my
bridal colors very soon. Here are the facts...the hotel where we are
having the ceremony/reception has a lot of gold decoration. My dress
also has gold beads but not too many to be gaudy. The invitations we
have selected are 7x7 squares in classic white, we will probably print
them in black ink and have either gold or black liners. My first choice
for colors was gold and navy but that was before we chose this hotel.
And my mother didn't think navy would be appropriate for a spring
wedding. So that leaves pastels, etc. But lately I have been thinking
about black and white. The only thing I can think of to be in black are
the tuxes and the bridesmaides dresses. The wedding will begin at 7:00pm
and is semi-formal so I think we can pull this off. Please offer
suggestions and advice.

My wedding is next October, so I plan on encorporating fall colored
flowers. I think if you went with peachy/ivory type flowers, it would be
very complimentary.

You can either have the flowers be all white (with gold bows if you like)
or you can pick a second color for flowers like red or pink.
Alternatively, you can still go with black BM dresses, but have
multi-color bouquets of spring wild flowers. It all depends on the look
you're going for.
Do you particularily like one of the spring flowers that will be in
season? For instance, red tulips would be very spring-like and look
striking with the black BM dresses. Some people choose a single white
calla lily, which look very classy. My personal favorite is white or
purple irises. =)

I can't help with specifics without knowing your tastes. I offer this,
though, from my own florist who does a lot of evening corporate
conventions in Phoenix, AZ (and with whom my photographer agrees):
evening colors should be in light shades and somewhat airy, as they
reflect the light around them (often candles.) Dark shades appear darker
at nighttime, and bright shades, such as fuschia or royal blue, can seem
drab.
FWIW, I don't have wedding colors per se, but am concentrating on light
hues of gold, pewter, sand, champagne, etc., since my reception begins
outside at 7:30 pm. I'm hoping that my BM and flowers will stand out.
We'll see -- in March! Good Luck, Sandy

There's nothing wrong with your selection of gold and navy for a Spring
wedding. Navy is a very hot color this year and it's beautiful and
elegant. Personally, I'd do all white flowers with gold accents for the
bride, and white clutch bouquets for the bridesmaids, trimmed with greens
and sprayed with a hint of gold. It's an elegant look.

My cousin got married this summer and she had her bridesmaids dressed in
slightly-off-white outfits with gold accents.. It looked really classy and
it's something that the women can wear again later on..

Nothing wrong with gold and navy...navy is very fashionable right now, and
it is always seasonless.
With formal gold & navy, I think I'd choose yellow/gold tones for the
flowers, accented with white. Or you could use all white flowers.
Actually, cream/ivory would probably be prettier -- white, gold and navy
makes me think nautical summer -- but if your dress is stark white, it
might be better to use the whitest flowers as well.
With black & white, your flowers could easily be bright red or any other
standout color, or they could be all white and shades of white (ivory,
cream, eggshell, etc.). Or, again, you could use yellows. How about
irises? Not navy, but if you like brighter blue, too...
Freesia is in season in April and comes in lots of different colors.
Somehow pastels don't seem right to me with gold. But if you do decide on
pastel BM dresses, obviously, coordinate your flowers with that color.
