Our colors are also blue and silver and we're using delphiniums for our blue
flowers. I'm pretty sure they will be in season in September; I know they
are in October so... Irises are also blue, but I think they're a spring
flower, although I could be mistaken.

I'm not sure about the bouquet/altar arrangement question, but I've seen
delphiniums used in both.

As for another color (other than blue) that goes for silver, I love the look
of purples and lavenders - maybe irises.

I don't know how seasonal they are, but just off the top of my head here
are some blue (or bluish) flowers:

delphinium
sweet pea
hyacinth
hydrangea
iris
tulips
lavender (some varieties are more blue than purple)

I know there are several others, but I can't think right now... I'll see
what I can dig up in my old florist's guide.

What types of tulips? I've never seen them, but would be very interested
for my wedding.

I've always thought blue looks lovely with silver. It will be a very elegant look.
Just a few years ago there was very little choice of blue flowers especially in
autumn but now there is a lovely selection available. Generally, delphinium is your
best choice. They come in many different blues as well as white. There beautiful
long stocks look best in arm bouquets bound with ribbon. Shorter stems and even
individual florets look good in round or cascade bouquets. The individual florets
are surprisingly hardy despite their delicate appearance and make great
boutonnieres. They even dry well.

Hydrangea is also available. The best blue hydrangea in the fall actually comes
from the west coast. It comes in a variety of shades often blended with green or
even burgundy. It is a nice sturdy flower and also dries well.

Cornflower or bachelor's button may still be available. Nigella and scabiosa
(summer flowers) may also be available. Scabiosa looks similar to a blue poppy.
Nigella is a small flower with delicate petals and a lacy foliage. These are the
same flowers that produce a lovely bugandy and green striped pod in the fall.

Iris is always available and comes in various shades of blue but isn't as sturdy in
warm weather or for boutineers.

You might want to mix your bouquets with white flowers just to give them a little
sparkle.

Another good colour if you can't get blue is purple or mauve. It may have the same
"cool" effect.

Irises are a spring flower. There's also status. It comes in all different
shades of purple and blue, but it's more of a filler than a main flower.
Dusty miller is a greeny-silver plant that would also work as a filler
instead of plain green leaves. Hydrangeas are a blue-purple.

Check back issues of Martha Stewart or a gardening magazine at the library.
A lot of time they do articles on a color and then discuss all the different
flowers that come in that color. They'd also have pictures so you'd know
the shade and size.

Good Luck

Hydrangeas come in blue, I think. Irises might look nice as well. You
might also think about different shades of purple. Are your dresses a dark
or light blue? If they're dark, I would think about some lighter colored
flowers so they'll set off the dresses. If you think about keeping the
colors within the "cool" family, you should have a lot options.

Cheers!

Susan,

Our "colors" were blue, silver, and white. We used blue Delphinium and silver mesh
ribbon in the bouquets and arrangements, and the bridesmaid dresses were navy. I
really loved the way it looked! Here's a photo:

Hope this helps!

I know there aren't a lot of blue flowers out there...but, I've heard if you
get white carnations and put blue dye in the water they will turn blue...

My colors are navy and sunflower...sunflowers being the flowers.

Hope this helps...or try asking a florist...if you arelooking for something
to go with silver, keep in mind that you will need a cool color (blue based)
as silver will look better with those kinds of colors.

Hope this helps,

Lisa

I'm having blue & white flowers tied with a silver ribbon. I want
lily-of-the-valley and either cornflowers or bluebells.
