You can but you'll need a switch on the end of the cable distant from the
router.

sorry for the length - copy and paste carefully.
Basically there are 4 pairs of wires in a CAT5 cable of which
you only use 2 pair for each machine, so it is possible to
network 2 PC's onto the same piece of cable.

Cat 5e only uses the blue and orange pairs, but if you want to use VOIP
in the future or upgrade speeds in the future you need all 4 pairs.
I would run a Cat 6 cable to each PC to give a bit of future proofing.

Thanks for the replies - I have ordered a set of homeplug (mains
multiplex) thingies - they "claim" 85Mbps - much better than the 2-16
I get at the far end of the house!!!
