If you read classics such as Homer's the Iliad and the Odyssey, you
will observe that soldiers in combat, sometimes become emotionally
carried away with the result that they commit acts which are
inappropriate. Achilles, after he killed Hector before the gates of
ancient Troy, strapped Hector to his war chariot and dragged him
around the gates of Troy! Our "feminist bourgeois" nation has no
concept of the virile personality, culture and character of the combat
soldier but vehemently rejects the same. Thus, politicians capitalize
on the same by publicly persecuting our soldiers to court political
support amongst the "feminist bourgeois" American electorate. They did
the same during the War in Vietnam.

Let's see... it's rape and pillage first, *then* we kill and burn.

Well, your problem is that you have, obviously, become emotionally
carried away in the heat of combat and, as a result, have commited
acts which are inappropriate; the same thing happened to Achilles, I
understand. Just be careful the feminist bourgeois don't get you.

Well, I thought all of that was covered in basic.

You know, the standard stuff right outta the FAQ:

"How do you shoot innocent women and children?"

"Do you have anything to trade for my ham and Lima beans?"

"How does your sister enjoy her dancing lessons?"

"Why is there a notch in my dogtag?"

"Why should we pull our mattress over our bodies... will a
mattress stop an incoming 122?"

And my personal favorite:

< scenario >

"You're trapped on a ledge with a raging river below you, an
NVA hunter-killer team closing in from above... and all you
have is a B2 can of peaches and a P-38; what should you do?"

< /scenario >

Others worthy of mention:

Questions about Jane Fonda and the notes from the POWs.

Questions about "Operation Tailhook" and the island in the
South Pacific.

Questions about the same island and the incurable strain of
VD... wasn't it the same island?

(I *still* recall the time you told Suzi that story!)

Others less worthy:

"How come they say: 'Shoot the whole nine yards'?"

"Is it 'cut mustard' or 'cut muster'?"

"Can you find 'The Boonies' on a map?"

"Where was a 'free fire zone'?"

"What is Hitler?"

"Why is Spain?"

"Where are the Ed Combs of yesterdear?"

The answer to the "peaches" scenario is:

You eat the peaches!

Geeze, dude... you're gonna have Dai Uy after you if you don't know
that!

So... to redeem yourself: Why should you always pull your mattress
over yourself during a mortar and/or rocket attack?

Mattress? You guys had mattresses? If you had ice, too, I could deduce
that you had hootches with screens on the windows. If you denied having
screens, I could deduce that you had an air conditioner.

All we had was bees.

For 1mpc, Tabasco/McIlhenny would send a small bottle of sauce. The
problem being that we went for months without mail. They put a rookie in
charge of the mail and he stored it in a conex. We read about his bcd
in Stars and Stripes and got 3 months of mail in one day on a string of
special huey flights as they sorted mail in the rear.

You guys in the Boonies didn't appreciate Saigon... it was quite an
ecclectic city. It actually had shopping malls! And toilets that
flushed, air conditioners, PXs and... the National Buggery Monument!
In Vung Tau, we had White Mice riding Harleys and V-8 Oldsmobiles
pulling boats on trailers.

Of course, we also had... "Open ranks; MARCH!"

"Those boots look a little dull, Specalist."

"You didn't shave well this morning... get a haircut!"

But, we never worked on Sunday and were off by 5:00 daily. You could
live off base unofficially.

Things were different in the field. "trim that beard, you're gonna get
caught in the breach-block." We had guys with pony tails and braids.
Handlebar moustaches that were kept tucked behind the ears, boots white
from the salt in their sweat. Dark tans and fatigues bleached white from
the sun. (with a red tint from the dust)
We made a stop for 2 hours once to refuel the caribous and made a booze
run to the PX, they wanted to see our ration cards. (HUH!!!) We carried
m60s and M79s to the Phillipino PX.... they sure were nice. No
questions, no ration cards needed.

The following is the URL of a web site entitled Henry V's Saint

Hit the skip ad button to go directly to the speech.
It explains the context of my original post and is a tribute to

Galikanokus is an ANTI-Vietnam Veteran activist and is exemplary
representative of those who treated returning Vietnam
Veterans in such an oppressive, discriminatory, and insulting manner.
A careful examination of his prior posts is indicative of the same.

Oh, ration cards were cheap. Around Saigon, lots of people retired by
stealing from the PX. In late '70 and early '71, I worked in a
facility where we shipped air frames and parts home to depot... quite
a few of them shipped out loaded full of other... materials. I dunno
*how* anyone there wouldn't have known. When an aircraft part is
tagged as grossing 400 lb and the forklift is straining on it, there's
other items in the box.

I gotta go give a final and get 'em graded.

Air freight is funny. Every time we shipped captured smokables back, the
box got lighter the further it travelled.

Your assumptions could not be farther from reality.

Your statements that the Vietnam veterans were oppressed, discriminated against, and
insulted are fantasies made up in your own mind.

I am not a Vietnam veteran. However, I am a veteran of the Vietnam Era. I volunteered for
service during the war. Is it a fault of mine that I was never sent to Vietnam? Is it a
fault of mine that I was trained in electronics rather than assigned to the infantry?

Is it a fault of our nation that we didn't have a big parade for the vets when they
returned home from a war that was lost?

What is it that you think you deserve?

What is it that you think you think you were cheated out of?
