The pay rate for the various colleges is public in Texas... why don't
you Google it? You'll find that my college (Del Mar College) is at
the very top, ahead of the University of Texas and Texas A&M. Del Mar
coaxed me away from the University of North Texas in '97 with a
significant pay raise.

Sorry, I am loyal to only one thing... public school teaching.
Community college teachers, you will find, are fiercely loyal to the
profession... and, I know, I tend to be cynical about most things;
however, I actually touch hundreds of young people every year.

And, what do *you* do with your days that's so important? ...
organize protests that nobody attends? ... print newsletters that
only beg for money? Hell, if you do nothing, the outcome of the war
won't change... the US will still lose in the end. Neither of us will
change that.

Son, you don't know what "touch" means. Teaching the difference between
bit and byte is not "touching". You regurgitate what is in a book...something
most anyone can do at the community college level.

Hell, son, if you do nothing the difference between bits and bytes can
still be taught by some flunky.

Yep, it would appear that was the case. Funny too as I was just being
ironic...He didn't know 'bout the Blount Report. Actually if he had
his shit together he could have just countered with,"Yeah well The
Blount Report was followed in 1894 by the Morgan Report, which
contradicted Blount's report by concluding that all participants
except for Queen Liliuokalani were "not guilty", and therefore
concluded that the U.S. Government and its agents were not to blame in
the conspiracy to overthrow the monarchy." But apparently he's a bit
touchy in the status department. Hell,I was going to point out that
while he maybe a professor I'm off parole and my warrants are stale!

He is correct you know; no good will come of this adventure. They got
more bodies than we got bullets - or dollars. He learned that lesson
in 'Nam. The difference is he's a tad burnt out. I remember the fear
we put to the pigs. That's why today, and tomorrow, there won't be a
draft. That, and, 'The People United Will Never Be Defeated'! -

One issue with the web (IMO) is that it promotes a very shallow
scholarship and dishonest claims of knowledge based upon only a
superficial Google search. One person cannot know everything about
every topic and Hawaiian history simply isn't my field, so I admitted
it.

Actually, my comment about Texas secession was more along the lines of
casual conversation than any major historical point. Talking to you,
sir, is like sitting down to dinner and saying, "The rolls are good,"
and you counter with, "What do you mean 'good'? Can you provide a
reference? Have you read the 'Moss Report'?" ("A stoned Moss gathers
no rolls.")

Oh, if he's honest, probably not. I mean, the person likely being
dragged by "all that pretty long hair" could very well be his
daughter.

I'm pretty much a moderate. As such, I catch shit from both sides.
IMO, we were flatly wrong to have invaded the Mideast; heck, the USSR
tried that in... '78? ... whatever... they had *far* shorter supply
lines and they went bankrupt over it. The US will suffer a similar
fate, I predict. I do not *like* that, though.

OTOH, I do not support a person's stand if he or she chooses to
enlist, accepts the cash bonus, then decides that he or she opposes
the war. That person made a choice and I am an unqualified supporter
of personal responsibility... yup... there's that old 'R'-word being
used for something besides "Rights".

You meet a few on Usenet who are completely honest and up front...
and, buddy, you ain't one of 'em by a long shot. To be that, you must
be comfortable with who and what you are... I am; I can look any man
directly in the eye and give my name. Now, kiss my ass, sir!

Mostly, he simply bores me. He's still about, or was recently;
however, he doesn't have much to say to me... or, if he does, then I
don't see it, which isn't really surprising since I don't read his
stuff.

I don't have a "killfile", per se. It's just too much bother to
maintain... heck, I'd just *die* if I happened to read something I
didn't like, you know.

I honestly don't think Doug tries to be offensive. I see him as a
harmless nitwit and I support his right to post any nonsense that it
pleases him to post. Gosh, I'd even read him if he'd just get to his
point in a timely manner; I don't feel like wading through seven pages
of "disclaimer" material looking for it (I have a limited attention
span, you see, and Doug usually exceeds it.)

I suppose that "Dr. Quinn" stuff is about as close as I have come to a
killfile; however, I generally like to leave it in the reader because
nothing downstream of it interests me, either. If I filtered the
offensive material, then I couldn't easily identify postings who were
simply spewing back at it and I like to see the full picture.

The Quinn character amusing, simply because it's interesting to see the
lengths he has gone to in order to try and hide his identity.

As with most of his kind, he's a coward who chooses to post anonymously
because he doesn't have the balls to identify himself and stand up for the
position he takes.

Oh, about as amusing as the email that populates your inbox: "I humbly
request your attention to this most urgent matter..." If you've seen
one, then you've seen 'em all; why bother?

I see he has chimed into this thread... I mean, I wouldn't even bother
kill-filing him.

Hey, fuck him... I tire of talking about the idiot.

Let's talk about ducks?

I was writing a grant proposal Friday where I had to address how we'd
maintain laboratory equipment for wind farms... only I misspelled
"laboratory" and the auto-correct kicked in.

I was then writing about our "lobotomy equipment".
