passed away in Central Vietnam. His body was transferred to his
Pagoda, nguyen thieu, in the Binh dinh Province for funeral. As the
titular head monk of Nguyen thieu, the logical organizer of the
funeral would be the second in command at Nguyen Thieu.
Unfortunately for Monk Thich quang do the second in command of Mr
Quang in the Unified Buddhist Church and his presumptive heir who
seemed to lose control of the Funeral cum Coronation ceremony . The
king is Dead long live the King.
During Mr thich Huyen quang’s long illness, the subordinates of Monk
Thich Huyen Quang at Nguyen Thieu Pagoda had been infiltrated,
bought, pressured by the Vietkong to transform Monk Quang’s more
extremist Pagoda of the Unified Buddhist church into a more
conciliatory Church toward the VC , the Church of Vietnam , So Mr
Thich quang Do who was the second in command of the Unified Buddhist
Church who would be the “star” of the Funeral Ceremony as its
principal MC was not even allowed inside the Nguyen Thieu Pagoda to
conduct any kind of ceremony.
I saw on VTV4 a corpse in a coffin , presumably that of Monk Quang,
about to be put into a stupa, The video clip did not contain a close
up of the body or the completion of the introduction of the coffin
into the stupa so El Chnino could not swear that these events had
taken place.
The Video clip showed about 100 monks of various ranks in Buddhist
garbs praying peacefully for monk thich huyen quang to join the
nirvana. They were joined by about 100 more laymen Buddhists. There
were no disturbance of any kind on the video clip but it would be
easy for the VC tv crew to edit out all disturbances if any existed
before showing it on vtv4.
However Vietnam now has 40 millions cell phone subscribers many with
camera phones. It would be very unusual if pictures of the
disturbances will be not soon on YourTube if disturbances really
occurred.
If there is serious disturbance evidenced by videoclips, then the VC
will lose the propaganda war. i.e., they tried to inject themselves
into a purely religious matter.
If there is no disturbance then Mr Thich Quang Do loose. This is the
proof to el chino that he doesn’t have much support in Vietnam.

When I was in Vietnam, in 1968, I thought that it was a bad situation. That
politics had become more important than anything else. Bit the people
seemed to want only the things that everyone in the world wants...

Maybe it has nothing to do with today, but I have been around the world a
few times, and I do not see the religion of Buddhism being a very big threat
to any country. The big religious threat to the world is Islam. But that
is in the west or the middle-east, not the far-east.
Anyway, the United States had a civil war, north against south. 618,000
dead. Makes the Vietnam war very small in comparison.

Somehow the US survived and went on. Now the Vietnamese need to just go on.
It was not a good time, but there is no sense in going after your own
people, Buddhist or not. Let them live the way they want. They can be a
good help.
