that gives a new meaning for the word "futility"--this is his purpose
in life, and the results are virtually the same as if he got a real
job and never went on line at all. There is a lesson here to be
learned, I suspect--but whatever it may well be, I can't be bothered
to find out.
your comments are appreciated--JML
Hello James--glad to see you as we make our way across this blighted
landscape; I do hope all's well...
and in Otis' case, I think the answer is: "what tree?"
"Otis" is Exhibit A in the list of Life Lessons I try to instruct the
young ones in my family about; essentially, you tell them that "(a)
you go around once in life, and (b) to quote one of my dad's favorite
songs, you had best "make it count, son!" because you have a real good
chance of not being able to make up the lost time. And here is "Otis",
effectively wasting his time at what he has stated is his life's work.
Better his time than mine.
Again, a pleasure talking with you, sir.

dear dead days almost beyond recall
Sure it does. The laws of physics still apply, regardless of whether
anyone's around or not.

Why are you trashing him so much? Hes the only one who has posted on
topic here for a long, long, read that to say, a very long time.
Well, I drop by occasionally just to discern any signs of life; it's a
lot easier to rinse oneself clean from dabbling in cesspools then
being constantly immersed in them. If you (or anyone else) is
interested, here is some info on dear "Otis"; this should provide
enough information for folks to keep as far away from him and his ilk
as possible...

I"ve been back from la belle France for some time now, thanks for
asking--I'm probably stateside (Washington DC) for some time, so I can
just go about my daily duties and spend time checking out these hidden
corners of Usenet...
Hoping to hear from you again, but in more fortunate circumstances, I
remain very truly yours.

And, might I hasten to add, how do you know there's no one around?

Yeah, how does he know?
I'm pretty sure that there was a homeless family huddled under a bush
close by, sobbing softly in the cold, driving rain, with nary a tiny
morsel of food to curb their gnawing hunger. No, Bob, it's not that
he didn't 'see' them, it's that he didn't _want_ to see them.
Because, despite what you may have heard, _no one_ left the cake out
in the rain.
but it took so long to bake it!
