<<<<<<<< Hey Lenell,
Thanks for the plug. We've got to push this thing any
way we can. I'm hoping this isn't Ultraman's last
stand if it doesn't sell, but we should think of it
that way and spread the word to as many people as
possible that it is out and is a quality product (at
least I hope it is, haven't seen it yet...).
Bob>>>>>>>>>>
HE IS RIGHT!!!!!!! SHOW YOUR SUPPORT!!!.... SPREAD THE WORD. This
could mean the differance if Ultraman lives OR dies in America.

Yes on both counts. From the press release and from the blurb on the
DVDs "Original Uncut Japanese Episodes with English subtitles." The
following three 13-episode volumes are being prepared, and have been
announced (and are listed on the spine of the Special Box).
Confirmation also comes from 4Kids, Funimation and Tsuburaya
Productions.

My only question is this: "Are the DVDs dubtitled?". I realize that's a
silly question, but stranger things have happened.
As far as I can tell, this is the first official release of an entire
Tokusatsu series uncut and subbed in America (well, mainland America that
is, since Hawaii has a few subs). I'd hate to see this first step ruined by
a dubtitle.
I never heard of a "dubtitle" But I understand your concerns
The DVDs will be exactly as the press release from 4Kids has stated.
uncut, in Japanese and sub-titled in English.

The only thing which can ruin the whole thing is if there are low
sales. We must ALL push this. Spread the word! Let other fans know
this will happen. Refer them to sites like Henshin Online and KaijuFan
Online for the press releases. But most of all BUY THE DVDs' I have
about 3 collection sets reserved. When I go to get mine. I will be
wearing my Ultraman Hat and pins.
2 Days to go!!!!

The term "dubtitle" is usually used to describe a sub that is basically a
transcript of the dub version. For example, the Pilot Candidate official
English sub was a dubtitle. This resulted in various oddities, like subs
appearing when no one was speaking.
I'd hate to pick up the Tiga release and see "It looks like my
mother-in-law" in the subs. O_o Like I said, it's a silly question, but
stranger things have happened.
Thanks
Al
Al, Tiga could open the door to MORE Ultra-stuff coming over here. If
the sales are decent. More Tiga will come out, after Tiga comes out,
MORE ultra-series could follow. Maybe to the point that the original
series could finally come to offical DVD.
Buy the DVD's! that way can sales be successful to warrent more
releases. Plus spread the word! We need all the help we can get.
This maybe will be Ultraman's last chance in America.
Tiga (in the japanese format with English subs): Tiga was one of the
best of the Heisei Ultramen. Good stories, good effects.
BTW: Give me a buzz I maybe to help you on your query of DVDs.
Hope this helps

While many fans will disagree, beacuse they grew up with ULTRAMAN;
regardless, that's your opinion and you're welcome to it.

>Stuart,
>Are you saying that because ULTRA SEVEN was shown in Hawaii, and you
>lean more towards the stuff you saw as a kid? Because ULTRA SEVEN,
I suppose that's possible. On the other hand I never saw Goranger as
a kid and it's my favorite Sentai.. We had left Hawaii by the time
Goranger was aired in Hawaii. In fact most of my favorite tokusatsu
were not shown in Hawaii.
>without the benefit of subtitles or without understanding Japanese,
>can be a very "action-less" series. The original ULTRAMAN has far more
>action than ULTRA SEVEN.
Nonesene. Ultraman has very little action.. In fact Ultra series in
general have less action than most other tokusatsu. In Hawaii Ultra
Seven was dubbed in English not subtitled. Ultraman is a great sleep
aid.

>While many fans will disagree, beacuse they grew up with ULTRAMAN;

I don't agree with most Ultraman fans. The original series is one of
the dullest tokusatsu I've seen. Ultra Seven, Ultraman Leo and
Ultraman Towards The Future aka Ultraman Great are much better.
Sez you. ULTRAMAN and ULTRA SEVEN are basically the same show.
They're sci-fi giant monster shows with dashes of action thrown in.
MASKED RIDER and KIKAIDER, to wit, are action shows with sci-fi thrown
in. So action shows probably appeal more to you. ULTRAMAN and ULTRA
SEVEN have the same appeal to me as a classic Toho SF film from the
60s, dubbed, subbed or not!
> >While many fans will disagree, beacuse they grew up with ULTRAMAN;
> >regardless, that's your opinion and you're welcome to it.
Agreed. I first saw ULTRAMAN when I was a teenager. Got my copy with
the 1st issue of MARKALITE, and was totally surprised that Eiji
Tsuburaya was the creator! I totally got into the show. It was like
watching a Toho Monster film with a giant superhero thrown in! That
was certainly not boring to me.

We probably all view the Ultra series a somewhat different way. I
remember watching Ultraman in the 70's and seeing some Ultra-7 in the
80's. Heck, during collage, we made it one of our weekly gatherings
to watch Ultraman: Toward The Future. But it wasn't until I first saw
"Ultraman Zearth" that I was officially hooked! Yes, it was the
parody that drew me in; but I quickly grew enamoured of all the shows
- my current library of import DVDs should attest to that (as should
my woefully dwindling bank account :-)
Personally, my favorite series (so far) has been "Ultraman Gaia"; it
had a grander overall story arc, I feel - - most of the other shows
are too MotW formulaic. Of course, I still enjoy the Bixby/Ferrigno
"The Incredible Hulk", so formulaic isn't really an issue for me, now
is it? :-)
I think I've gotten a bit off topic, so I'll stop there. Just my
2yen... :-D
-Yogzilla
It's still a 1970s show, and was shown in Hawaii, as you know.
> Nonesene. Ultraman has very little action..
It's not nonsense; there's more monster action than in ULTRA SEVEN.
SEVEN is more introspective of a series, more character-driven, while
ULTRAMAN is a monster-action series. Just because YOU don't care for
the series, doesn't cancel the it out -- in fact, fans around the
world devote websites to the Ultra Series, and many Ultraman fans
don't care for Toei Heroes. Personally, I like all Japanese superhero
series.
> In Hawaii Ultra Seven was dubbed in English not subtitled.
I know; I bought a copy of the Dunn Publications' ULTRA 7 magazine,
which has an article on the dubbing, when I visited Honolulu in 1977
(I also purchased the English theme song 45rpm single, sung by Masato
Shimon).
But, aside from two suriving episodes, none of the Tsuburaya
Hawaii-dubbed ULTRA 7s seem to exist -- they were lost or destroyed --
the only way to see it are the horrendously dubbed Ted Turner/Cinar
version and the original Japanese episodes. So, to those who do not
understand Japanese, or do not have access to subtitled episodes (of
which there are only two fansubbed episodes floating out there), the
show might seem duller than ULTRAMAN to the causal viewer. Which was
my point.
Personally, I really like ULTRA Q, ULTRAMAN, ULTRA SEVEN and RETURN OF
ULTRAMAN the best -- not necessarily in that order. My single favorite
superhero series of the 1970s is KAMEN RIDER V3, but that doesn't mean
that I cannot equally enjoy ULTRAMAN ACE or SPECTREMAN.
> I don't agree with most Ultraman fans.
WE KNOW, and you're entitled to your opinion. But, just because *you
think it is,* doesn't make it so. Everyone has their likes and
dislikes, but you cannot refute facts, or try to bash other's opinions
when they counter yours.
Peace,
August

It is nonsense. Ultraman has maybe 2 minutes of action. How any one
could be exicted about that dull series is beyond me.
