Sony LDP-1450 or 1550 as a home player?

Hello,

The Sony LDP-1450 & 1550................ I know they are heavy
duty, industrial players. ALG arcade games used 1450's and if the
1450 ever broke down a 1550 could be used instead.

However, I was curious as to how well these units would function as
home movie players. Any body using one in this role?? Did these units
come with a remote control inside the box?? If not, once you acquired
an RCU (eBay?), did it make the player any more user friendly??

What about the connections in the back?? I know that the 1450 and
1550 used BNC-jack video out. I figure that you could go over to your
local Radio Shack and purchase a BNC-male to RCA-female converter for
around $6.00. Perhaps people with the correct skills would manufacture
a custom-made cable with BNC for the player side and RCA for the TV
side.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bill N.

I'm using an well-worn LDP-3600D, and it doesn't really make a great
player -- no digital audio support, and very noisy pictures. No great
incentive to upgrade, since I hardly ever watch Laserdiscs, though...

Adam,

All three machines have no digital sound, do not produce the greatest
picture and have the wrong connections........... I'll take that as
"No, none of the three would be a good home player". I guess that if
my Pioneer LD-V8000 ever goes "poof" or "tits up", I'll look for
another Pioneer.

If you'd like to suggest a player, please feel free to do so.

Thank you very much for your time, effort and consideration in this
matter.

Best Regards,

Hello everybody,

In the old thread, it was explained to me that the Somy 1450 & 1550
would not be a top pick for home movie use because they do not support
digital sound. I was wondering if there would be any way to add
digital to these machines?? Perhaps an up grade from Sony?? An add-on
box from a third party?? Perhaps a clever hack like you can do with
the Pioneer LD-V8000 for AC-3??

Thank you,
