Hi I have a Pioneer CLD-D604 player, lightly used over its 14 years
that I have owned it. Suddenly when I now put in a disc, it displays a
U1 error code (dirty disc), and after ten or fifteen seconds, ejects
the disc. I have power cycled the player without results. When turning
it on, there is a low grrrr, which sounds like a motor trying to turn
against a resistance. Any way to manually rotate the motor spindle to
unstick it if that is the problem? The last time I played a laserdisc,
it functioned fine, about three months ago.
Thanks!

I would just buy a new player.

Define "new." :-)

I get your point, though... I wouldn't sink any money into a D604
player.

Don't know about this specific model, but it very likely is a motor
turning but failing to fully position the pickup or LD clamper.
It's worth checking for a flabby/decayed belt since that could
very well be what's slipping. Belts deteriorate whether the player
is used or not.
