Well, I finally found this site and I'm trying to locate my LD reapir
guy from Michgan, his name is Duane Cummins from a town called
Shepherd. I have his email unless he changed it his phone # isn't the
same either. I had quite a bit service done by him since I'm from
MN. he was a great and honest guy and know problems he even included
extra parts like belts and tossed in a few movies. I wanted to get my
cld-d704 service from him the spindle sounds rough. I know its the
motor this time. Duane told me how to keep the rubber part clean. I
wanted to keep him as I think he was in his early 30's a young age for
these kind of repairs. I know he had a breathing ilness that he
mention once to me, and I hope he is okay along that line.

If anyone as speaked or heard from him lately please let me know?

I heard that he had a nervous breakdown recently; I hope that that's
100% true, but that's what I heard. I don't know if he's well enough
to service LD players, or not.

As an alternative, you can go with Kurtis Bahr <kbahr(at)comcast(dot)
net> or Duncan Hunter <service(at)laserdiscservice(dot)com>. Both are
highly reputable.

My post should have said, "I hope that that's *NOT* 100% true..." I'm
really not that callous! :-)

AlI I know is was alway's happy and he would talk your leg off about
different players and how some of the older model's were beter with
certain discs. He talked me into buying a cld-3080 and he said he
would include the rf ac-3 mod for free after he asked me if I could
play dolby digital discs with my gear. Than machine has never let me
down and it does play fairly better in most older discs than my 704,
and 79 Elite.

I will send him a letter to his home address and find out if he is
really ok, maybe the ression caused some depression like I see my
coworkers like that lately. He was just a great honest caring fellow
thats all, very hard to come by now these days, Also he repaired my
Pionner DV-05 DVD player back in 2007 if I recall.

Thanks for the heads up -junior and I hope he is ok.

I have a CLD-3070 with AC-3 mod (done by Kurtis). I'm curious as to
which title(s) look(s) better on your 3080 that doesn't look as good
on your D704 or 79?

Both Kurtis and Duncan are honest, competent, and caring, too.

His eBay ID is dueyat30. He used to sell his laserdisc services under
that ID. He was last active on eBay a few months ago, but only as a
buyer. He may have updated his email through eBay. If you don't get
any good leads, you might try sending an email through eBay services.

I used to have a 3080. I think where it might be better on older discs,
is that it is more "forgiving" than a D704 for light speckles, chroma
noise, ect.
I know that the super-sharp picture on the D704 causes the player to
show every single speckle, white line dropout, black line dropout, ect
that a disc has.
Pop the same disc into an older player that's pre-digital noise
reduction, and you'll find that the player is more forgiving of slight
disc defects.
A good example of this is I once had the top single-side Philips
player. I forget the model number now but it was THE model that Kurtis
spoke of many times very highly.
A certain old title showed amazing defects when I played it on my
D704. Popped the disc into the Philips and almost miraculously, many of
the defects seemed to disappear!
I performed many A/B comparisons and the difference was very
noticeable.
Want to see a truly horrific laserdisc picture? Turn off all digital
noise reduction on a D704 and pop in the original fullscreen laserdisc
release of Pretty Woman. The chroma noise will eat you alive.
Just my opinion, based on hands-on experience with many dozens of
types of laserdisc players back in the day!

He sometimes listed next two mailboxes (edit verbosity):
1) Lasertechlaser__AMPERSAND__yahoo__PERIOD__com
2) laserdisctech__AMPERSAND__yahoo__PERIOD__blackberry__PERIOD__com
