I have a damaged DVD that will not play or be copied correctly. The problem
seems to be the VTS_01_0.BUP file which the various programs (DVD decrypter,
etc.) cannot read. Everything else is fine.

Is there something that can be done to fix this? It's my only DVD of this
video.

Thanks.

Jeff

VTS_01_0.BUP is a backup copy of VTS_01_0.IFO.

Just delete it, and make a copy of the .IFO file and rename it .BUP

Jeff might have to try ISObuster, since he says he can't play or copy the
disk.

I've never used that program, but it has been recommended frequently on the
video NGs. I believe it is not free.

Jeff, can you make an ISO from the DVD with a different program (like
CDBurnerXP or DVDFab HD Decrypter)? If so, do what Bill says.

The DVDFab program is an interface to several programs; only the decrypter
one is free.

The DVD plays but stops part way into it with an error and inability to read
something. I replaced the bup with the ifo for the bad set but that did not
help. The remaining ifo files seem OK. I suspect it is damage on the DVD.

I have not tried CDBurnerXP or DVDFab HD Decrypter or ISObuster. May try
them.

Thanks.

As I understand it, ISObuster was created to deal with such problems; the
others are more for region or protection sorts of problems.

From your description quoted above, I agree that it's probably damage to
the disk :-(

I had a similar problem and to just get a copy I ran the disk on a DVD set
top player and recorded the disk via RGB. My player worked with this disk
with a few drop outs and it was not copy protected but none of my computer
drives would handle the disk. The copy was pretty good.

Oh yeah - analog!

I'm getting like the guy with a hammer, forgetting that some things aren't
nails :-)

Your post is sort of a wake-up call for me.

That's a thought Gary. I'll try it.

That's the dvd drive on my notebook PC. I will try it on the separate dvd
attached to my TV.
