I recommend the Insignia, I don't know what kind of digital
tuner the Apex has and I've noticed a significant difference
in reception between different brands of converter boxes.

I have the Insignia, and it's very nice. However, if you are looking for
a vcr converter that has an event timer, you're going to have to look
elsewhere. AFAIK, the DTVPal (new name for the Echostar converter) is
the only coupon-eligible converter that has one. www.dtvpal.com has been
taking orders for them for just the last few days, and they do accept
the coupons. I don't know if they are actually shipping yet. They are
selling for $59.99 without the coupon, and of course shipping costs and
applicable taxes would be added to that.

I set-up two of the Apex DT250 converter boxes yesterday and can say they
rock the house.

Only downfalls I can see:
Can't add channels without first wiping out the channels you've already
found
Not a universal remote or info code for setting other Universal remotes to
control it
Manufacturer: Denca Industrial Ltd.
MPEG Decoder / SoC: Zoran SupraHD® 741
Demodulator: SoC Integrated
Tuner: Thomson DTT76852
I don't know anything about the Insignia you mention.
I have a universal radio shack 6 in 1 remote. I believe it is No.
15-2146 and with it you can cycle through until it works with a
device. It came up with the code 0749 and when I saved it, it works
great. It is much stronger than the Apex remote that has to be pointed
exactly at the sensor and be level, etc.
It works for power, changing channels, recall last channel, number
keys for changing channels. The volume still controls the TV volume,
which is fine for me.
So try that Remote code and hopefully it will work for you.
