Why the flame, if you have read this far you may be interested to know
what it was that broke the camels back (I will explain later). I do
not normally flame, in fact I will go further - I never flame - But in
this case I make an exception.
I now realise that he is a victim of the condition "Strevellitis" -
this is diagnosed when a person has a perception of himself and his
views that bear no relation to their worth or importance. To the
layman these unfortunates are often simply called "know alls"
The worst response to someone in this condition is to pander to their
needs (i.e.the need for attention). Unfortunately this is exactly what
this group has done over the past few days;
To begin with there was the "Write like Strevel" contest. A great
idea I thought, but to someone as thick skinned as him he didn't see
the subtlety of the joke.
Then the ultimate - some innocent soul happened to ask "Who the ****
is Don Strevel". BINGO here was the zenith of Don's time in this
group and probably the experience that sent him over the top,
destroying any hope of his rehabilitation. Here was a thread on DON
STREVEL which could then be commented on ad nauseum by Don Strevel.
There is a certain manic logic there - Don talking about his favourite
subject NOT the Frontier - NOT even LAS VEGAS...... BUT HIMSELF.
So why have I finally lost it........
Well......I happened to post to this group a question about any Kid
Sitting Services in LV ("Recommendations for Kid Sitting Service" -
if you are interested). I received a couple of replies; Vic joked
about a dealer sitting on kids (I asked for that one) and Bill Elson
responded with some useful info (Thanks Bill).
Now,.... because I am aware of the conflicting opinions on bringing
kids to LV I put a little PS on my post.
QUOTE;
(I would really appreciate it if you have strong views about kids in
LV if you could keep them to yourself - I really don't want this to
become another "Kids aren't welcome" thread) - Thanks.
END QUOTE
Simple Yes? WRONG
I have just downloaded a post from Strevel himself, here are a few of
his points and my responses are in CAPITALS ( if that looks like I am
shouting then you are probably getting the right idea;
Strevel begins;
"May I share a personal view (no impoliteness intended)...HERE WE GO
What the hell ya bringing kids to Vegas for? So they can grow up,
blow their
money and learn to be gamblers from the cradle? McDonalds built an
empire on that idea. It is subliminal programing. Leave the kiddies
at home with warm blankets with milk and cookies, huggs and kisses.
SUDDENLY THE MAN HAS COMPLETED EMPIRICAL RESEARCH ON PSYCHOLOGICAL
DEVELOPMENT IN CHILDREN. I AWAIT HIS THESIS "MILK AND COOKIES - AN IN
DEPTH STUDY"
Kids do not need to be exposed to some things at an age so young that
they need a babysitter so parents can go do what they don't want their
kids to see them do!
IF YOU HAD READ MY ORIGINAL POST YOU WOULD HAVE NOTICED THE AGE OF MY
KIDS AND WHY MY WIFE AND I WANTED TO FIND A KID SITTING
SERVICE.......WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO LEARN TO USE YOUR BROWSER.
Kids here grow up right because the influence in the home is stronger
than the influence on the Strip. (We know exactly where we live.) And
some kids grow up selling their bodies for drug and gambling money
because the influence in the home is weaker than the influence on the
Strip.
YOUR ARROGANCE IS REALLY QUITE AMAZING. AM I TO INFER THAT A VISIT TO
LAS VEGAS WILL COMPLETELY UNDO THE WORK I AND MY WIFE HAVE INVESTED IN
OUR KIDS. ARE YOU IMPLYING THAT THE INFLUENCE IN MY HOME IS REALLY SO
INEFFECTIVE!!!!
Look at the social ramifications subtracted from the advertising.
Vegas is great for adults that can make a mature decision.
I DON'T SUPPOSE IT CROSSED YOUR MIND THAT PERHAPS MY FAMILY DISCUSS
THE EXCESSES OF LAS VEGAS AND ACKNOWLEDGE IT FOR WHAT IT IS.
It is not
good for kids. ...my humble opinion~that and 50 cents'll get ya some
coffee.
WHEN HAVE YOU EVER BEEN HUMBLE - TRULY HUMBLE PEOPLE LISTEN. TRULY
HUMBLE PEOPLE DON'T HAVE AN OPINION ON ABSOLUTELY EVERY SUBJECT.
Strevel quote ends;
I think I can drop the capitals here as I'm losing my voice :-}
One final comment ( i'm sorry if I'm going on - I NEVER write this
much). If I had read this post six months ago I would have thought
how unreasonable the writer was being. I would have had sympathy for
Mr Strevel for he does sometimes offer some good advice. However, as
the months have past I have become weary with his self centred antics.
He is like the very active child in the class who is a godsend at the
start of term but a few weeks later his incessant talking proves to be
a pain in the butt.
OK that was my 200 cents worth - Flame away.
Richard
"I'm going out for a while - I may be away for sometime"
Well, Richard, you see... there's really not much we can do about
Strevel. He's been kicked off of Prodigy and rec.gambling and that
taught him nothing. He's been like this for at least 2.5 years
that I have experienced his "mental feces" on Usenet.
In addition to being a know-it-all and posting way too much - he also
refuses to pare down articles when he posts a reply (like he will repost
three pages and put "I agree" on the end) - he also
starts brand new threads with replys rather than maintaining
the same thread (somethig that really annoys those of
use with threaded newsreaders).
Basically, the guy is a boorish lout with too much free time and a PC.
Often his information is just flat-out factually wrong, or so full
of his own self important opinions as to be rendered worthless.
At this point, I just sigh and laugh at his stupidity.
Remember, you can point at him and laugh - but please don't feed
the Strevel..

Personally, I think this is all "blowing air". We all read his
posts---most of it is pretty interesting---Seems like he's just a guy
who happens to love where he lives, and isn't afraid to express his
opinion about just about anything. No crime. Beats tuning in just to
read the "Where is?" and "What's playing" posts. If someone slams a
door in my face, they're a "boorish lout". If they write some stuff I
don't agree with, they're just someone with a different opinion from
me.
BTW, how do you "pare posts"? I'd like to do that when responding to
long ones.

Who the hell cares? Why don't you send him e-mail with this stuff? YOU
just sound like a dork now (both of you). Get a life, and stop
worrying about what Don thinks.....

An ace and a ten hmmmmmmm sounds like a good double..........
Mark,
Sorry that you hasve chosen to be angry. I am not the originator of
anything with my name on it. I may have responded to some posts, but
Mark, I live here in Las Vegas. There are people that ask questions
that actually need an answer. How about the nice person that had a
credit card problem. I was able to make a local phone call, get here a
person to speak to as well as a special 1-800 number to call. Her
problem was resolved.
Please, take notice that I do not place my own name up there, others
do it of their own volition, and frankly, I enjoyed the humor being
poked at my "misspellings". I do type to fast, and really should proof
read them more before I post them. We all get along here, and I for
one do not enjoy your impolite intrusion in the fashion that you are
attempting. As far as rec.gambeling/Prodigy the people became anal,
rude and just like the way you are acting now. I left them due to
people just like you, mean and vindictive. Bro, this is not your
system, it belongs to the world, and you may find that the world may
just flame you this time around...more than the two that did me tha
last.]
Just be polite, let your ego go by the wayside, and play nice with
the rest of us kids. Enjoy the Internet.

Not to be boorish, but RTFM.
Or try asking AT&T - _they_ know what software you are using to read and
post mail. Your question is equivalent to asking "How do I reformat a
paragraph with my word processor?" We don't know what kind of computer
you have, what the OS is, what the word processor is.

The real problem is that Strevel's opinions and comments cut into the
really important posts. Without him we could devote even more band width
to the truly pressing issues that occupy this newsgroup:
1. Best Buffet for Breakfast
2. Best Buffet for Lunch
3. Best Buffet for Dinner
and of course my favorite oxymoron . . .
4. Best Casino to take the Kids to.
Sorry, but I'll take Don's comments over a lot of what passes for relevant
posts any day.
