Good point.

Most don't. They come here maybe 1-2 times a year, do the SAME thing again
and again and again, and actually boast later how CHEAP they are. Most are
just plain jealous.

Stick with Nonny, Westie, Baf and me. We often fight with each other but be
live here and do go to these places. Walt and I have made peace and
occasionally he reports on some good deals. Steve Friess, Scott Krause and a
few others occasionally drop in. In my opinion, Westie write the best
reviews other than me and is as good a Al Mancini and Max Jacobson . :)

You can always call me at the Big Mikey Line 818-867-4863 and ask me a
question.

Nobody on this site has the guts to do that.

Despite most of the "Soiree Sissies" (as I call them) thinking they know Las
Vegas, the majority of them stay at the lower end hotels like El Cortez,
Main Street Station, and Las Vegas Club. These are excellent hotels and
quite reasonable, but I do not recommend them for your first trip here nor
for your 'dream vacation'. Sort of reminds me of staying in a Motel 6 on
Waikiki or a Youth Hostel. Perhaps that is just me but I have experienced
this town for almost 50 years. And my family has experienced it since WW2
ended.

Unlike some here who accuse me of not telling the truth, I write reports
only on places I have personally experienced (rooms, restaurants, shows,
etc.) I also try very hard to avoid repetition as Las Vegas is such a
diverse city now. While I am a "local" now, I was a tourist as well and
can understand the opinions of both points of view.

Most of the Soiree Sissies, have one goal here in Las Vegas: DO IT CHEAP.
I agree to do it inexpensive but cheap is cheap. A steak at Ellis Island
for $6.95 is a good deal. But don't fool me into thinking it is a gourmet
steak. What I try to do, is give you tips on where to get QUALITY for the
best buck. Unlike Matt Whetherford and Thomas W and Andrew, I LIVE HERE.
Matt relies on others for his information and takes it extremely personal
when others "upstage him." I don't. Matt does not update his information.
I will recheck because I can.

If you count the number of posts related to the upcoming Soirée, you will
see that over 85% of the discussion the past month is nothing but. We also
talk a lot of political crap here. (Mea culpa.) The rest is usually flames
at JP or me.

But if you look hard, occasionally a good review (blush) does appear--and of
course gets challenged immediately. Such is the NG.

Excellent post, keep writing.

Make your vacation(s) memorable! Make it different than what you have ever
experienced at home! Go off the beaten path. See the Boneyard Tour--but
not in 110 degree weather! Eat a Filet Mignon Sandwich at Triple 7, but not
each day! See Mac King, but also see Penn & Teller.

If you come here counting your pennies, you lost the whole idea behind this
incredible city. Whether you feel Las Vegas is Sin City, Disneyland in the
dessert, Wynnville, Baghdad, NV or just plain "get away from the kids",
ENJOY!

Donna is a rated player and spends more in 10 minutes then you
do all year and she is going to the soiree
tom c spends more on tips in one trip that you made in the
past 10 years and he is goint to the soiree
ciberhog spends more on tips to cocktail waitresss then you
spend on stuffing you face every day
maybe not that much cause you need to feed you face a l;ot
every day to maintain you fat body
and hes going to the soiree
matt spends hundrds of his own money every year so his friends
have a great time at the soiree and all you can do is be a big
crybabay cause you cant go the soiree

Circus/Circus is generally considered a good hotel if you are traveling to
Las Vegas with kids. If not, then I would recommend staying in the Manor
Tower. Actually the size of the Circus/Circus rooms are about the same size
as the original Caesars palace rooms . C/C does offer some very inexpensive
rates for there rooms and is still among the least expensive places to stay
on the strip. But be warned their are lots of children often staying at
this hotel and if you are looking for a vacation away from the kids--this is
NOT the place.

C/C was built when pools still seem to matter and they have a better pool
than others. The restaurants are fair with two exceptions. The Buffet has
been talked abut for years as one of the worst in the city. Actually it is
not that bad-but there are many others better. On the other end, THE
STEAKHOUSE at Circus/Circus is one of the best restaurants in the city.

C/C is also on the northern end of the strip with the "older" hotels
(Sahara, Riviera,) and older casinos nearby. The Westward Ho and Stardust
are gone and until the newer properties are completed, there is not as much
to do there. But for a budget conscious tourists, it is still a great place
to gamble, eat and drink. Everyone has to gamble and eat next door at the
Slots O Fun. (Bring Pepto Bismol if you eat the hot dog.) Beer is the
cheapest anywhere. Slots O Fun also has cheap blackjack and slots. Riviera
has cheap food in the Mardi Gras Food Court and Sahara has the NASCAR Cafe
which is fun. Riviera also has the less expensive shows but all of them are
showing their age now. Sahara has the Fab Four Show (get tickets at the
discount places) and Roseanne.

Personally, I loved camping but that was 20 years ago. My idea of roughing
it is when 'room service is late'. I still enjoy the national parks but I
am not sleeping in any tents anymore. My last tent campout was on the beach
at Camp Pendleton waking up to the Marines at 5 am on July 4th. My
girlfriend took her 18 year old son one last time, so they could "bond". He
hated it-she hated it. My nephew loved it and ran with the Marines.

Enjoy your trip an write a trip report.

There's been too much bull shit going on here. Mainly because Mr.
Payton won't shut up and wants to be the Bad Boy of avlv and others
let him.

While I've met JP and have no problem with him he is definitely out of
control. I suspect the solution is for the biggest people to stop
answering his posts. Sure it's hard to resist but it is quite tiring
and just more of the same all of time.

My solution, which isn't worth 2 cents is
(1) Ignore the JP posts that are meant to inflame.
(2) JP should step up and stop the flaming and see if others will.
(3) if both of these fail A in A (or one of the other 50 qualified
representatives) should come up to Worcester and have it out mano
mano until one of them is down and counted out

It's time to crap and get off the toilet and get on with avlv.

I can only deal with one situation at a time. While both JP and BM
have
many detractors (a mild term) here, JP has about 500 as many posts and
has created the situation that the original posters was bringing up.

But it would be better for both of them and the detractors to let up.

Just because someone does not have a 702 area code does not mean they
can't be an expert on Vegas. I lived in the Daytona Beach area for 15
years. I don't have the 386 ( FUN) area code anymore but I know a lot
about Daytona Beach and you all know I am also an expert on Vegas.

Something that I concur with:
I have an 818 area code phone and I'm 280 miles from Vegas near
Glendale, California. I think it would be a stretch to consider myself
a local even though I can find my way there blindfold.
It's my *guess* that the original poster is overseas and has been
sucked into a cheap bargain travel package that includes flight and
hotel. My *guess* is that it's a U.K package.
While I'm in a guessing mood I'm guessing Cleveland will win tonight
but won't cover the 5 point spread.

Here's some Las Vegas advice:
Most Brits don't care for the American version of beer.
Catch the deuce ($2 bus ride) downtown and find Main Street station.
It's theme is a 50's British railway station (or American equivalent)
and there you'll find the 777 brew pub with decent beer brewed on
premises. If you like shrimp order the full bucket of them.
If you like a nice cup of tea you'll be sadly disappointed in the U.S.
Don't bother.
