Just got my cyber-taunt from Donna, BR and Andrew who are sitting at the
MSS bar and having way too much fun. Steve H-K was apparently there
earlier but NO OTHER locals showed up! What's up with that? Is everyone
washing their hair?

I had NO idea they would still be there!

As a few of you know, I was at the NBPA All-Star Gala last night, an event
that I was committed to stay at until 3am. At the point at which I "should"
have left here to meet up with them, I'd only had an hour and a half
sleep... not the wisest condition under which to drive from "here" to
"there". I had planned on going to see Barack Obama speak at the Government
Center and to then catch up with them at MSS. I watched him on television...
the man is GOOD.

I am SO tired... with any luck, there's a really good night's sleep coming
up later tonight...

Marsha; You are certainly entitled to your opinion about Barack, but you
should really consider his policies, his ideas for leading the country and
if he has the experience to handle the job.
You are probably a very intelligent woman, but the dumbest think I can think
of, is a person, who wants someone to be president because they are
"charismatic", a "good talker" or "good looking". Those traits do not
denote, whether a person is going to make a good president.
I think Hillary is one, fine looking woman with a very attractive face and
hairstyle, but even if I was a liberal democrat, I would not vote for her
because of her looks.

I have no problem with how he spells his name. He does have muslim
connections in his family and thats why his name is muslim. Should this
discredit him?? This was talked about to a great extent in a recent article
on CNN.com and the article itself asked the question.."will this muslim
ancestory affect his quest for the presidency?". I suppose the liberal idea
is to just keep quiet and hope no one talks about his connection with the
muslim world.
As for being black, this certainly does not discredit him, if I mention his
race. Can he hide the fact that he is black, while people in society
question, if he should be president with his limited political experience?
Your idea, that no one should mention any variable that might throw cold
water on his run for the white house, (race...a muslim family background,
whiich he does have) is the whole basis for the invention of political
correctness; and PC sucks.

Burt... there are people whose posts are best left unread.

Regarding Barack Obama, I've seen him make several television appearances
since he gained national attention following his speech at the last
Democratic Presidential convention. I've read both of his books and found
myself wanting to stand up and cheer repeatedly. So when I discovered that
he was going to be here, and I had a chance to go see him, I wanted to do
so... NOW... because I hope that it will be increasingly difficult to get a
ticket to do so in the future.

I believe that the very things that make him "different" are the ones that
may well make him be our best choice in '08.

I never discussed his policies and leadership abilities? You should read my
other posts. This man is in his FIRST term as a Senator from ILL. Very
little political experience for a man, who wants to be president.
When he was in college and just afterwards, he had some typical black views
concerning whites, that you would usually find with the black panthers. The
media will have fun, asking him to explain why white society is responsible
for all of the problems of black americans. That was his view BEFORE he
decided to run for office. The article pointed out, that he said a lot of
juicy things, without thinking about how they would sound in the future.
I'm not anti-black, but I don't relish the idea of having a president, who
thinks white society owes the black people a free ride, and thats how his
remarks sounded to me, when I read them in that article. Now, if you say, "g
ee....I haven't read anything like that" then it is because the liberal
media is giving him a free pass, until after he is nominated.

Doc, adding to the deficit means nothing. democrats have expanded the
deficits many times in history and the republicans have done the samething.
A liberal is someone, who believes that the government is the answer for all
of our countries problems. They believe, just throw money at the problem and
it will go away. That is why 1/4 of all americans receive a monthly check
from the government; including me on SS.
A liberal politician is also someone, who designs their social programs, so
that the receipents remember who gave them the bennies and will vote for
them at the next election. For example...college scholorships or grants for
only minorities...I.E. blacks and hispanics; no whites allowed. Don't
believe they exist? They do and it is unfair as hell. In short, it is buying
votes with taxpayer money and doing it the legal way.
A conservative person believes that people should take care of themselves
with a minimum help from the government. Social security should be setup, so
that if a person retires and has a 6 figure retirement income..not counting
SS, then they should forfeit their SS money and let it go to other people. I
agree.
Conservatives feel that the playing field should be "level" between
minorities and whites. That scholorships and grants should go to ANYONE, who
meet the qualifications.
Just an example of the difference.
Now, if you vote for someone because they have a slick speaking style, that
is not being a liberal; that is being stupid.
A liberal, would suggest that you avoid reading or listening to someone, who
does not project the liberal, democratic agenda. people such as marsha.

There are blacks who feel this way, but of course its hardly "typical".

Just as there are some old white guys scamming Social Security and who have
brains the size of peanuts. There are white people like this, but its
hardly typical.

Why Barack Obama would be one of these blacks who feel society owes them
something because their ancestors were slaves I have no idea; especially
considering the fact that no one in his family was ever a slave. Obama is
being criticized by some blacks for not being black enough, for supposedly
not being able to understand the American black experience because his
father was an actual African from Africa and all of whose ancestors were
Africans who lived in Africa and not sold into slavery.

He's a biracial guy who was raised by a white family in Hawaii, for
crissakes. He is not a descendant of slaves.

And this has what to do with the son of an African man and a white woman
from Kansas?

Obama could be one of those members of white society who believes that slave
reparations make no sense. He certainly isn't in favor of them, that being
an issue that comes up in Chicago from time to time.

>>All white society owes them .....

You're the one collecting something for nothing from society out of a sense
of entitlement. Obama has a job!

And you're ripping off whites, blacks, asians, hispanics, gays, lesbians,
native Americans, and mixtures of all of the above. Your sense of
entitlement knows no bounds.

I remember when white welfare scammers with a peanut sized brain and a sense

Maybe its time to bring that back. We can start with separate but equal

You never find "all" of any group in agreement.

A bigot means I feel superior to another race. NOT AT ALL TRUE. but when
someone of any race, feels that another race owes them something because of
what happened 2 or 3 generations removed, or 150 YEARS AGO, is total
bullshit.
In the past, except for support from the black caucus in washington and a
few big mouthed politicians, the idea to pay damages to current black
people because of slavery never got off the ground. In case you didn't
follow the bill, the congress soon found out, that to recommend paying
billions in taxpayers money to blacks because of slavery would have been
political suicide.
We owe no one anything but equal rights and equal opportunity.

No shit sherlock. I've been in a store in selma, AL when I was about 14 and
saw mens rooms labeled "white" and "colored". I don't agree with any of the
discrimination that went on during the 50's..60's or later, but laws have
been passed and it is our obligation to respect these laws, so everyone has
an equal lifestyle and opportunity. White society owes no one anything of
monetary value. We are required to rid society of discrimination. Not pay
people for damages that happened in the past.
What are you looking for? lawsuits filed by blacks against whites, because
blacks were not waited on fast enough in a dennys?

Well...not a very good example of bigotry, although you did get pretty
close to nailing a definition for racism.

What am I looking for? Mostly intelligent discourse. I'm certainly not
expecting it from you. And let us remember that you're the one who
brought up reparations and the fact that slavery ended 160 years ago.
I merely pointed out that institutional racism didn't end with

Yes, I see it could go either way.

My sense of Payton is that his resentment of government welfare
programs, political correctness, etc., is not based on a racist or
bigoted view, judging from the overall content and tone of his remarks.
There are clearly racists and bigots on Usenet (or trolls who pretend
to be) who leave no doubt where they stand. I don't believe Payton is
one of them.

I think there are degrees of racism and bigotry. My personal sense of
Payton is that he is not those things to a great degree. To me he
represents the classic modern AM radio audience member based on the
surface level opinions he expresses. His little anecdotes remind me of
the hearsay evidence that goes unchallenged every day by radio hosts
nationwide.

That's a bunch of right-wing republican CON-man nonsense and you know

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberal

"Liberalism is an ideology, philosophical view, and political
tradition which holds that liberty is the primary political value.
Liberalism has its roots in the Western Age of Enlightenment, but the
term has taken on different meanings in different time periods (for
example now in the United States generally it means new liberalism
while in the rest of the world has the meaning of classical
liberalism).

Broadly speaking, liberalism emphasizes individual rights. It seeks a
society characterized by freedom of thought for individuals,
limitations on power (especially of government and religion), the rule
of law, the free exchange of ideas, a market economy that supports
free private enterprise, and a transparent system of government in
which the rights of all citizens are protected. In modern society,
liberals favor a liberal democracy with open and fair elections, where
all citizens have equal rights by law and an equal opportunity to
succeed."

So, you think that all the racist and discrimanatory policies of the
U.S. government and school system against Blacks and Hispanics were
okie dokie? Do you not realize that because of the racism of Whites
in America that those programs came into existance? You have what
most Americans suffer from: amnesia. You cannot remember what racist
policies have existed in America in the last few decades. Hell, you
cannot even remember what you posted 2 posts ago.

That's what Liberal government grants do. Go pick up a copy of a

Hate to break it to you, pal but we live in a Liberal democracy. Take

I don't remember using the word "typical" but if I did it was wrong. I most
likely used the word "some", since it is rare to imply that "all" of any
group would do anything.

Walt, if were ever meet, I'll buy you TWO drinks. Your description of me
right on target.
I don't hate any race or any ethnic background, but I am against government
welfare programs that are UNNECESSARY or that favor one race over another.
With all the civil right laws that the fed gov and the states have passed
since 1964, affirmative action is no longer necessary, since SOME AA
programs favored blacks and hispanic people over whites. REVERSE
DISCRIMINATION is also VERY WRONG. White society cannot make amends to its
black citizens by taking away rights from the white citizens.
My white son has has just as much of a right to apply for a scholorship as
someone's BLACK son, as long as all the financial requirements are met.
Political correctness was invented to prohibit people from expressing
viewpoints, which do not favor the liberal agenda. Nothing more than taking
away free speech rights from citizens who disagree with the liberal agenda.
Thats basically where I stand and these people who like to toss around the
words "racist" and "bigot" really don't know the true definitions of the
words.

Sorry steve. I'm not a dittohead and rarely listen to AM radio.
I am also, not a racist or bigot of any degree. To be against any program
which favors a minority is NOT racist, whether you think so or not. I also
do not think I am better than anyone else or that the white race is better
than some other race. We are all equal, so make the laws and government
programs apply EQUALLY to all races.
No one should receive a government benefit because of the color of their
skin or where they came from.
Call me a racist if you like but I've always had the trait of speaking my
mind and PC has never stopped me yet.

You hit the nail on the head with your last statement steve.

> I merely pointed out that institutional racism didn't end with
> slavery.

You can pass as many laws as you like and use PC to keep people quiet, but
discrimination will continue until the public is educated against racism.
Being against programs that favor minorities over whites is NOT RACISM.
You may also call this BS, but I went to school during the 50's and early
60's. before the 1964 civil right laws.
Black kids and white kids did not socialized anywhere except at school.
Whites and blacks ate lunch together in their own groups. After school, they
went home to their own neighborhoods and we to ours.
Now, I am not saying that segregation was proper or good. IT WAS NOT and we
needed the civil right laws, but there was a lot less, and close to zero,
racial trouble between blacks and whites in the schools I attended in
kentucky.
Everyone seemed to get along real good in class; playing sports in PE and
ever when leaving school. The trouble between blacks and whites seemed to
originate when forced busing was installed by the courts and kids were
required to go to school outside of their neighborhoods.
Just food for thought.

It looks that way. FDR and his merry band of democrats started SS. If they
let people put money into IRA'S during their working careers, they would be
a lot better off at retirement, but the government wouldn't have money to
take care of people who NEVER work. Thats where the socialism comes in.

We have had civil right laws since 1964. Minorities have had equal
educational rights since then. The scholorship programs favoring minorities
came into existance within the past 10 years. Long after the playing field

Funny thing about free speech, JP. Liberals love it just as long as it
agrees with their viewpoint.

I read Obama's book too. A good read, but so is Cultural Warrior. I read
from all sources. I listen to Air America and NPR (aka little Air America)
and the BBC (aka little Air America-Great Britain). I seldom agree with
them but I defend their right to their opinion no matter how 'typically
British', typically 'liberal' or 'typically stupid' it is.

I have not formed an opinion on Obama yet, however his short term of office
in the US Senate makes me feel he is not yet qualified to be POTUS. And his
view are indeed somewhat from a black man's perspective. Does that
statement make me racist? When it comes to Israel, there is no compromise
anymore with me. The Arabs can go fuck themselves. Do I hate Muslims? No.
I hate anyone with radical anti American/Anti Jewish views.

Does that make me a typical JEW? Gosh I hope so!

Just for the record, I DID NOT OWN SLAVES, nor did my family), I DID NOT
HOLD BLACK THE BLACK MAN, AND I NEVER WAS A RACIST.

I did have family killed in the Holocaust. I had family chased to America
by the Czar, and also had my family suffer anti Semites (from stupid
people). My grandfather worked for the WHITE MAN too. But I rose to the
Amercian dream by educating myself and wroking hard.

Everyone in America cleans the toilets FIRST. Enough of this "I am a
victim' shit.

Oh by the way, one sister in law is Filipino and the other is a damn
Mexican. Guess their kids are all half breeds too. By the way, my Mexican
sister in law does not speak a word of Spanish. I guess she is ashamed of
being an American of Mexican decent (3 generations ago.)

Knock off the crap everyone....

It is ancient history ,Steve. You won't let is die.

Juat a few years ago Ellen GEneres was personal non grada in the business
for delaring her omosexuality. Sunday she hosts the Academy Awards.

Geroge Bush appoints the most racially dicvorse cabinet in US Hitory. But

Do you and SHK get together and smoke your lousy dope together or just sit
in lockerrooms sniffing each others crap all day?

I remember the Civil Rights movement too. And I was a part of it from
working on my first election putting up posters for Bobby Kennedy in '68 (I
was 14) and seeing him at LA Valley College a week before he was killed to
Jerry Brown and George McGovern to working my ass off for Jimmy Carter in
Florida Gerogia and Alabama. I have walked the walk and talked the talk for
Civil Rights.

And I can remember when Bill Cosby was considered a radical! Now he talks
truth and gets SLAMMED for it.

Civil Rights laws are a SHIELD NOT A SWORD. There is a big difference
between 1962 and 2007. Ask your best friend Elmer in Alabama. Ask my buddy
former Gov. Ronnie Musgrove of Mississippi, Ask Bill Clinton and Jimmy
Carter.

Do we have bigots in this country?. Sure we do. But JP is not one of them.
The answer to black. white, yellow or brown SHK is education, hard woek and
GUTS! My former business partner is a black man and he made a lot more
money than I ever did. But he didn't have time to deal with racism. He got
past it. His deeply religious convictions kept him going. And when we eat
dinner he still says grace.

Imagine that, a fat Jewish man sitting down to dinner with a skinny black
man and him picking up the check?

And doing it at a Dennys!

We have come a very long way in America. LAs Vegas was a bastion of
racism-today more women, blacks and hispanics are in poiltics than ever.
And let's not forget that crazy Jew as Mayor. (Persnally I am getting tired
of Oscar....)

Get off the high horses and cut the crap guys....

Nope. Nobody wanted to meet you.

I remember the many gigs SHK has had. Despite pissing up my ass every
chance he gets, NOBODY showed up as his biggest gig either.

I will give SHK credit. At the last Soirre we argued again (and again and
again) But Steve does have balls. I don't like Steve, and he doesn't like
me. But I have no beef with him outside of his political opinions or what
he writes on AVLV. He sings like a nutured cat but strums one hell of a
banjo. And he has a nice wife.

But Denny, DH and especially TR are the biggest pussies around. Andrew may
hit you with his briefcase but my guess he was also the coward of the
county. All tough guys who behind their keyboards. And maybe even together
they my act tough, but pussies individually. I really don't have any beef
with Matt either.other than he has lousy friends. Nor did I even plan to go
to the Soiree.

But enough of this shit. Peyton's and Strevel's privacy invaded. My
privacy invaded. Time to settle this. Who the fuck do you think you are?

See ya in June. You can bet on it.

Then Peyton is not a bigot.

But by that definition, Gregg, Hartaway is....

And Charles Barkley, as a black man, who also played in the NBA is ashamed
of him.

Bu I guess that is just a 'typical black man's' opinion of another. Least
Charles didn't say, "Are you crazy, nigger?"

They say that to each other all the time, don't you know.
