I would love to present $500 to the American Diabetes Association in care of
AVLV at the America's Walk for Diabetes being held in Las Vegas on September
20th. I will be walking the 3 mile walk.
Please everyone, send me a check and let's cure this disease in our
lifetime. Diabetes is has became a national epidemic-especially spreading
faster among our young than any other disease in history. It is spreading
faster than AIDS, or Cancer.
I was dismayed to read a comment about diabetes being a result of gluttony
here on the AVLV. This is one of several factors in this disease, but not
the major factor. Diabetes is the cruelest of diseases as it kills you
slowly. It can take away your eyes, your legs, your feet, your kidneys, and
heart. Dying of diabetes is a painful process and it affecteds everyone,
young or old.
Insulin is NOT a cure, only a treatment. And being overweight is NOT the
factor in Juvenile Diabetes. My cousin was skinny as a rail and died at 46
from Type 1 Diabetes. She left behind 3 children.
I have a lockbox set up for all donations. Please send me any amount (made
payable to American Diabetes Association) to
Americas Walk for Diabetes-Las Vegas

Ummmmm...The pump is for people who either >can not,< or >>>will not<<<
properly control their insulin through injections. I've read most diabetics
go back to injections after pumping for awhile.

That is their choice

A young child generally can't learn/understand well enough to tightly
control diabetes. You don't realize this?

The statement stands. Most pumpers who are willing to, or capable of,
tightly controling their diabetes go back to shots. Proper monitoring and
tightly controlled insulin gives better results.
> If you had half a clue (or

Yeah right. You love the pump. Use it and be happy. You always get so
threatened when someone disagrees. Sheesh don't be so defensive.
> I'd ask you to post your sources,
That's on a "need to know" basis, and you don't need to know.
Now go ahead and make something up.
In a LARGE number of cases, they recommend them because a diabetic is unable
(poor eyesight, poor dexterity, overwhelmed by fear of the disease, etc....)
to adminster shots, or manage their disease. In a LARGE number of cases, a
diabetic won't change poor habits and refuse (for whatever reason) to
closely manage their condition. In both cases, the pump is clearly
preferable to the alternative.

By 1) Carefully monitoring their BG. 2) Looking ahead to see what they
expect the day to hold by way of times and type of foods and exercise. 3)
Adjusting their insulin in responce. 4) Adjusting their medication on the
fly to adapt to changing situations. It's not easy, but many prefer to do
it themsleves.

That makes sense, Steve, and would certainly go a long way to explain
man-child's reliance on the pump.
"Fear of the disease" is undoubtedly one of the strongest points you make in
his case, as it is clear that he is fearful of lots of things, especially
the growing legion of AVLV folks with whom he disagrees on even the most
trivial of subjects. Lacking the basic skills to discuss or debate topics in
an intelligent manner as most "normal" people would, the only way he knows
how to respond is to treat all these folks as his personal enemies and
revert back to the type of schoolyard bully he most likely was -or was
victimized by- in his youth.
I'm not sure I'll ever get over the constant amazement at observing someone
who actually revels in the disgust directed toward him from so many. No one
could behave that way and have any self-respect, no matter how vigorously he
may claim otherwise.
--
Since he's going on 53, Mike, that clock will probably start accelerating.
With some of the things he talks about eating (and drinking), it's for sure
he's playing with fire where his disease is concerned.
It's almost without doubt that he's not only the most offensive middle-aged
adolescent to grace Usenet in a long, long time, but no one comes close to
challenging him for the title of King of the Hypocrites. It's a constant
source of hilarity to see him jump on others for their spelling errors in
posts that contain errors of his own. And his never-ending babbling about
providing "proof" of the idiotic things he says is the biggest joke of all.
Long before you subscribed to AVLV, he actually ackonwledged that he
deliberately lies about many things in order to stir things up. His
deliberate lies include many that involve me, such as claiming I'd never
move to Nevada, that I drive a Camry, that I don't receive my local
newspapers by delivery on my driveway, that my HDTV was a phantom product
that did not exist, etc., etc., as well as a slew of unrelated claims -never
documented by him- such as stupidly saying that George Maloof owns a
percentage of Green Valley Ranch.
He could never prove any of those ridiculous claims, because they were false
and he knows it.
I suppose it is rather flattering that I am such a shadow over him that he
can't even report on interesting Vegas-related news without working me into
his posts. I guess the latest would be something having to do with the big
fire our general area suffered yesterday. The man is so totally obsessed
with me that it has clearly taken over a large part of his life. How very
sad and pathetic.
By the way, you owe me big time the last couple of weeks as I have drawn the
heat off you and became #1 on his hit list. I saw we go to Makino and YOU
buy the drinks (non alcoholic). :)
He never thought I would move back either. But not only am I back, but
walking on 9/20 at the walk, so anytime he wants to meet me he can. Of
course. like you, he would just turn and run.
Come by the event if you can.

Now you're arguing which is better. Spin spin spin.
A diabetic had better know how to treat a hypo, that's all I can say. Even
WITH the pump, no Dr. would advise a patient to NOT be prepared for a hypo.

Though I'm not a Type 1 as he is, Steve, I can certainly vouch for what you
say.
I find it no trouble at all to look ahead and plan my eating schedule around
my other activities expected for the day, with only a few exceptions here
and there. If I know that I will go longer between meals than I should, then
I make sure I have appropriate, healthful snacks handy. And if I'm not sure
that I'll find what I need when dining out, I usually call ahead to ask, or
I inquire upon arriving. Most restaurants are all too happy to accommodate
diners with special needs, and of course the buffets are simply a matter of
picking and choosing.
I guess man-child is suggesting that he doesn't know how to do proper
planning, both for his daily schedule and for his food intake. Such a pity.
One of the countless benefits of our moving to Nevada, IMHO, and somewhat
ironically, is that I've received better medical care/supervision than in
Boston. With the assistance of a highly regarded local diabetes educator and
top-notch endocrinologist/diabetes expert, I was able to lose weight and
develop an approach toward eating that has brought my daily blood sugar down
from the 150-190 range when I moved here to the 80-130 range now. I was
taught how to monitor my progress, and I keep a daily record of my weight,
blood pressure and blood sugar results, which allows me and my medical
providers to see progress and changes. Doing all this successfully, my
doctor says, allows me to continue with oral medication and avoid having to
go on insulin. And I'm hardly inconvenienced by the tiny little pinprick
made by the lancet. Such routines are what I do to maintain my health, and
they are more a labor of love than a burdensome task.
Unlike man-child's constant attacks on so many, I have never put down him or
anyone else on the basis of their medical conditions, as having good health
supersedes anything else in life. But I do believe it is not a stretch to
surmise that one who is not in control of his emotions, and is essentially a
sociopath, is not likely to be in control of other important aspects of his
life. So in that regard I am not surprised that he attempts to disseminate
the same uninformed "information" about diabetes as he does about all the
other things he fictionalizes on AVLV
Also being worked on right now is a pump that will take the blood sugar
reading automatically and, just as automatically, pump the proper amount of
insulin into the body. They discussed it recently on http://www.webmd.com
.
People taking oral meds really can't do the same. Frankly, I don't know
why the doctors want them to take the sugar readings five times a day.
It's not like you're going to take more oral meds.
Oral meds come in two varieties: one that kick starts the pancreas to
produce more insulin (glyburide is one example, and is very dangerous
because it can ultimately wear out the pancreas altogether-- not good,
since it does more than just produce insulin). The other fights insulin
resistance (metformin, actos). Insulin resistance is the big problem in
type 2.
I almost died last August of an arrhythmia. They still don't know if it
was atrial fibrulation or ventricular tachycardia. The portable heart
monitor only told them it was a bad rhythm. Anyway, I was pushing 400 lbs.
My sugars were under control, but the blood pressure was out of sight.
Diabetes (hyperglycemia) will attack the heart (congestive heart failure is
a serious complication) and kidneys. Electrical problems and enlargement
of the heart are signs of it.
As I lay in the hospital bed, I did what so many do. I asked God to please
show me something I can do to get better. I change the TV channel, and
there's my local PBS station with a pledge drive show. Gary Null was
talking about his vegetarial-based diet. I said to God, "Okay. I get it."
Well, since then I've lost 100. I've done it with Null's plan (the book
cost all of $10). It involves lots of supplements and vegetable juices,
combined with aerobic and anerobic exercise. I'm up to about an hour a
day, now. Very few heart skips (early heartbeats, which were rampant
before). My sugars and bp are both down, which is great. Feel much
better, too. And the doc has taken me off glyburide and one of the bp
meds.
Type 2 diabetics really should work on losing weight. Easier said than
done, I know. But it can be done.
What I'm doing is expensive... all organics. I make my own juices (I know
it sounds odd, but celery and apple juice taste pretty awesome together),
wore out one juicer (Juiceman Jr) and bought a more heavy duty one (Jack
LaLanne-- works great... don't waste your money on the Juiceman Jr).
But the way I look at it is this: it's much less expensive to do this than
a stay in the hospital. And much less expensive per year than buying a
funeral and grave plot.
It does make a Vegas trip a bit tougher, though. It's a hard place when
you don't eat animal-based protein, including dairy or eggs.
Another type of diet some are using is the glycemic index diet. I'm a bit
skeptical of its claims, but some of the science seems sound. According to
this thiking, some foods raise blood sugar more than others, and keep it
elevated longer than others. The idea is to eat low to moderate glycemic
foods. And for God sakes, don't eat pizza. The worst glycemic reading of
all. More than straight glucose. And no white bread, white rice, refined
white breads, etc... you'd be better off eating rock candy.
And you can do both vegetarian and glycemic index. They work well
together.
I hope this is helpful to some. It is possible to make adjustments to
better manage diabetes.
And please donate to Big Mikey and the American Diabetes Association. If
enough people pitch in the price of one Big Mac Value Meal per week, we'd
have diabetes licked in no time. And probably heart disease, too.

I hope this works. Mom went through hell with the injections and constant
testing.
Gary Null is a genius in his own time. So are Barry Sears, Drs Michael and
Mary Eades and of course the late Robert Atkins.
While I am more into Atkins rather than Null, NUTRITION is the key.
Carbohydrates are the enemy-not fat. Both Atkins and Null agree on this.
We seem to obsessed about a 'low fat' diet but not a lower carbohydrate
diet.
And of course, we are all guilty of eating too much, not exercising enough,
etc. Living in Las Vegas doesn't often help in doing things to the excess
either.
One of the things I truly enjoyed however when I grew up here was that the
people of Las Vegas have a real soul to them. This is one of the most
generous cities in the USA. Now that I have returned I still see that same
spirit. This is truly one of the last 'melting pots' of America. I am also
amazed that in a town that doesn't pay very well, people still give to
others. Perhaps they understand the need to help others.
Good luck in you continued success to take control of your life. I will be
walking for you too!
All the best,
Big Mikey

How *is* your DIABETES coming, PORK CHOP? No cure for THAT
horrible disease yet, eh? Oh well, I guess you can just suffer with
the HUMILIATION of having to carry around your little (snort) pump and
insulin with you to all the supposed (snort) "hip" and "trendy"
restaurants you CLAIM to go to. Man, you must be a real chick magnet
there, PORK CHOP.
I can just see it now, "Hey, check out the PORKER in the corner
with the insulin pump. I gotta meet him!"
(SNORT!)
> BLA BLA BLA! Obviously, Cliffy ain't much of a type II (commonly
> referred to as an "easy diabetic").
Just how (snort) "easy" is it for you to be a DIABETIC, PORK CHOP?
Tell us of how you have to suffer from the humiliation of pricking
yourself with a needle every ten minutes.
> Yet another of DOCTOR CLIFFY's misdiagnoses! No wonder he can't
> practice medicine anymore than he can practice LAW!
Just how many (snort) degrees do you have again, PORK CHOP? What!?
None!? I thought so.
(SNORT!)
> Bawhahahahahaha
>
> ONLY Cliffy would compare the medical treatment available in Las
> Vegas to that in Boston and suggest that LV's is SUPERIOR!
PORK CHOP, just how many years did YOU live in Boston?
> The only doctors left in Las Vegas are those too lazy to move away, those
> who can't afford to move and those who got their medical training in a
> third world country.
Those supposed doctors who "got their medical training in a thrid
world country" have more education than you, PORK CHOP.
And I am sure you have stats to back up your CLAIMS????
> (snort) This one I GOTTA hear! Come on Cliffy...... tell us a name!
Tell us all the name of your (snort) type 2 DIABETIC doctor, PORK
CHOP.
> Pity you can't do the same for your prostate!
How's your (SNORT!) "wife in a can" doing? How nice of you to have
cremated your DEAD FIRST WIFE. But to keep her in a Maxwell House can
on top of your mantle in your (snort) $170K house that's "easily
verified" as Lynne's by the Clark County, NV assessor??? How trite.
> No Cliffy, you just SUPPORT other people who not only do what you
> CLAIM not to, but preach HATE and anti-Semitism. What's worse is,
> you CLAIM to invite these same people to DINE with you!
I wonder who you are referring to, PORK CHOP? Surely not moi, as
you CLAIMED that I have "never actually met Cliffy", which I could
easily do a Google search on and once again prove that you are nothing
but a f*cking liar.
> AMAZING that your principles allow you to interact with someone who
> preaches hating Jews, while claiming to BE a Jew, or attack a
> diabetic while you CLAIM to be a diabetic!
(SNOOOOORRRRRTTTT!) I wonder who the asshole is that PREACHES HATE
towards people of Latin American descent? How many times you used the
word "wetback" there, PORK CHOP? Kinda like calling the pot calling
the kyke.....ooops, I meant KETTLE, black.
> Oh yeah, you have REAL
> morals and principles! You're the Jew that helped lead his comrades
> to the GAS CHAMBER,
I thought that was another DEAD RELATIVE of yours who did that?
You remember SAM KOHLENBERG, don't you, PORK CHOP?
Wasn't SAM KOHLENBERG the one who did that to your people in WW2?
Oh, that's right.....YOU'RE NOT JEWISH ANYMORE, RIGHT? You superglued
your foreskin back on your needle dick and now you're (SNORT!)
SUPER-AGNOSTIC-MAN!!!
By the way, how did the anniversary of SAM KOHLENBERG'S DEATH go? He
DID die on August 1st, 1991, didn't he? What did he DIE of? Was it
CANCER like your FIRST DEAD WIFE IN A CAN? Was it DIABETES like YOU
suffer from? Was that your DADDy? AWWWWWWW! How precious. The PORK
CHOP and his DIABETIC, CANCER-RIDDEN DADDy KKKohlenberg. I'll name
him the PORK RIND!!!!!
> or should I say, the DOCTOR who removed the gold
> filings from their mouths before they were led away to slaughter!
Do you think those ovens used in Auschwitz can be converted to
kitchen size? I have a kyke....oops, there I go again, a CAKE to
bake. Must be that Freudian slip thing. You know how us "wetbacks"
are, right PORK CHOP?
> BTW, say hello to your GOOD FRIEND Elvis the WETBACK for us!
WHOA, BETSY!!! As Ronald Retard Reagan once said: "There you go
again!"
Gee whiz, PORK CHOP, for a guy who just got off his soapbox to call
the kettle black you just turn right around and proved to everyone
what a RACIST dipshit you really are. I hope Dave, Big Mikey, Andrew,
Danni and Dick Goldhaber and all of the other good people on AVLV who
are Jewish don't get offended by your comments.
By the way, all of the AVLVers who ARE Jewish are PROUD (as they
should be) to be what they are. They are PROUD of their Jewish
ancestry and, unlike you, don't cower away and CLAIM that they are
something that they are not. In fact, it was YOU who, when pressed by
me a few months ago, TUCKED HIS LITTLE TAIL in between his legs and
CLAIMED NOT TO BE A JEW!!! What a f*cking coward!!!
Although I am not Jewish and mean no disrespect to those that are
(except towards YOU, but that doesn't matter anyway since you CLAIM
you are NOT Jewish), I am PROUD of being who I am and I am PROUD of my
Latin roots and PROUD to be Catholic and PROUD to be American, etc.
YOU, are ASHAMED to be called a Jew. Being a Jew is badge of honor
that most people with cojones would wear with pride on their sleeve.
Of course, you have NO COJONES!
So, go ahead and be a coward the rest of your life. When all of
the aforementioned above and myself meet in Las Vegas in a few months
we will have a ball. We'll drink and gamble and laugh (mostly at you)
and have a jolly old time.
YOU, OTOH, will be typing on your computer about how you (SNORT)
OWN Discount TV, a claim easily disposed of when I spoke with Dennis
last week. You know Dennis, an employee of WILLIAM BAYGENTS who works
at Discount TV? Dennis and I were laughing so hard when I told him
you CLAIMED to be the OWNER of Discount TV when I looked up the record
on secretary of state's website and, lo and behold......it was owned
by WILLIAM BAYGENTS!
Dennis laughed so hard he had to put the phone down for about 15
minutes so he wouldn't DIE of hyperventilation. When I called him
last week he told me you were an INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR who tinkered
with USED VCRs and TVs and that you worked there only on occasion. I
am SURE that he discussed this with you some time ago as I spoke with
him again to CONFIRM what a F*CKING IDIOT you were to work with and
that he felt sorry for you every time he saw you.
But who could blame him? Since we spoke a week ago he and I have
become such good friends that I am thinking about inviting him over to
Las Vegas with the rest of the AVLV gang so that he can tell us some
jokes. And guess what? The jokes will be ON YOU!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I wonder what William Baygents would say if I
called him at his HOUSE in Riverside? Hmmmm.....
Oh, my! Where is that SUMMONS when you need it?!!!! Why, it was
in your mailbox! I have a bit of advice for you: The next time you
get a SUMMONS in the mail to appear in court - DO NOT IGNORE IT!
Well, PORK CHOP, I am done embarrassing you for the evening. I
have a movie to prepare to shoot. Gonna work a lot of long hours on
this one. Principal photography starts in a few weeks. I can't wait
to get on the set again with all of these stars. Sometimes I just
can't believe that I work in the entertainment industry.
By the way: I know EXACTLY what SQUIBS are! A lot of people in
the "industry" DO NOT KNOW what they are. You would know that if you
had ever set foot on a movie or television set. But since you don't
even own (SNORT!) your own petty little USED TELEVISION STORE, you
wouldn't know what I am talking about.
Don't stay up too late typing a response. You KNOW how that
affects your.....D-I-A-B-E-T-E-S.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2 comments. First about the pump. How many out there thought as i did
that the only pump CK has is the erection pump.
Second. Very interesting information about CK's business. Does this
mean he was Lying? Imagine that. Caught in a lie. The guy is a lie.
Just like the "his" Vegas second home that is in his wife's name.

Arguing with Chuck is pointless. We will eventually be standing over him at
Sunrise Hospital some day watching him fight for his life.
Do you live in Las Vegas? Come by the Diabetes booths on 9/20 and get the
real information. Chuck is just too stupid to learn the truth.
Mikey
If you want to know what insulin diabetics go through, listen to Cash's
song "The Hurt". It's from his last album. Indeed his last four albums
were the best he ever made.
Rest in peace, Johnny.
We will struggle on.
And one day, over this disease, we will prevail!
>No need to be a "chick magnet" when I have the best looking woman in

BEST LOOKING????????????????
Lynne is OK at best, Chuckie and I've seen her "close up". Closer
than you would be comfortable with. She was quite happy about it
though. Too bad you can't satisfy her anymore, Chuckie....if you ever
really could.
Ah, yes. More great information from Chuck, who on this topic knows
more than the State Board of Medical Examiners:
"Despite warnings that doctors were leaving Nevada due to the rising
cost of medical malpractice insurance, there are more physicians with
active licenses now than there were at the end of 2001, when some say
a medical malpractice crisis began, a state board reports."
For more, see http://www.rgj.com/news/stories/html/2003/09/06/51039.php
I'd bet that if you looked at the high-risk specialties, like obstetrics
and emergency medicine, there are fewer practicing in Nevada now than two
years ago. Those specializing in high-risk fields were hit the hardest
by rising malpractice insurance premiums. You didn't hear many complain
that their dermatologist was leaving the state and they couldn't find
another one.
The influx of licensed physicians could be explained by the opening of
several large new strip clubs in the past two years. The local cosmetic
surgeons were probably overwhelmed by all the requests for breast
augmentation.
In case you are super dense, the second paragraph in this post wasn't meant
to be taken seriously.

I am in a problem now as I have my company and insurance in LA but will be
living more in Las Vegas. When we shopped for a company to insure us in LA,
only Kaiser would take us due to size (small, under 15 employees) and Blue
Cross, Blue Shield, etc were just too much. After dealing with Kaiser for
years, it seems to me the hospitals in Las Vegas are nicer and newer. I am
NO fan of Kaiser but I still have employees who depend on affordable
coverage.
But workers comp in CA is really outrageous!
I take issue with you, however. There are more plastic surgeons in SO CAL
doing surgery on EVERYONE these days than has Chuck boils on his face. Too
bad he cannot afford some serious surgery...

Maybe, although the article reports that the GAO made random calls to
30 OB/GYN's in Las Vegas and 28 of them were taking new patients, with
average waits for the first appointment of just a few weeks. That
doesn't sound like a dire shortage of doctors in that specialty.
If that's correct, then it's welcome news. I didn't think the situation
would reverse itself so quickly.
18 months ago you'd hear stories on the news about pregnant women who
could not find an OB/GYN in the valley to see them, and were going to
California to have their babies. There was not a lot of confidence that
the legislators would find a a solution to the malpractice insurance
crisis anytime soon.
With the exception of the stories every few months reporting the imminent
closure of the trauma center at UMC, things seem to have settled down.
