Eternal September, for example, was just offline for an entire

post to up to a dozen related groups (and no they don't consider
it spamming in _those_ groups, so don't anyone start in). Then
there's the fact they miss posts, sometimes fail to post your
comments, sometimes have long delays in updating their servers or
posting your comments, etc. Then there's the super retention
policy Giganews has, which basically allows you to retrieve any
article, even if it's years old. I tried those before pulling my
hair out and going to Giganews.

Eternal September was just recently down for a full day. They
also don't have the retention of Giganews, and I've found them to
have irritating delays in updating and posting messages. I tried
the freebies for a couple months before I finally had enough and
went to Giganews. It has been virtually flawless for what I use
it for.

I use giganews for the groups from my birth country that my own ISP
doesn't carry.
Giganews is also much more reliable than the ISP. The incredible
retention is a useful bonus.
I keep the bills down by using the ISP for binaries in various photo
groups unless it is down, and giganews for text.

Nearly every day. I have had it fail for short periods. E-s seems less
reliable in its present incarnation than it was as motzarella. Albasani
seems very reliable. I only use it a couple of times a day but I don't
remember it ever failing.

I do have an account with them also. Quit using it a long time
ago, when they were having ongoing problems. Haven't tried them
lately.
