Since I went to 5.0 coincident with recovering from database
corruption, spam emails to various junk addresses I've used in
the past (e.g. iPodLounge@(domain name).com) are winding up in
one of my news groups.

Sounds like there is a default path for emails somewhere and I've
managed to set it to that NG instead of my "$Spam" folder - OR -
the routing is based on something like relative folder number and
my recovery process messed that up.

Am I even close?

Agent 4 used the folder name to route messages. Agent 5 uses the folder
number. There is a bug where Agent 5 gets confused and routes to the
incorrect folder number.

Use Explain Routing (?) for Agent to explain where and why it routed the
message.

For email there is an overall default folder and an individual default
folder for each pop3 account.

Maybe. :)

Check your settings under Tools > Options > Inbound Email.
Specifically 'Default Email Folder' and 'Junk and Routing'.

Tools > Review Recent Email (or CTRL+SHIFT+R) will display a list of
recently received emails. Highlighting one and hitting the 'Explain'
button at the bottom of the dialog will explain why it ended up where
it did. You might also want to put a tick in the 'Show messages that
routed to the Junk Folder' so you see everything.

And, of course, check your email filters: Tools > Email Filters.

Oh, and Tools > Servers and Accounts to check the default folder for
each of your email accounts.

Bingo.

Options | Inbound Email | Default Email Folder | Put all messages
that match no other filters in folder
was set to the problem folder.

Changed it to my "Suspect" folder and all is well.

Thanks!
