From the error message I get when I attempt this, I assume I must add
an entry under MIME Types. But exactly what please? I cannot find
anything in Help specifying what Type and Subtypes to enter, etc.
FWIW, at present I have these:
Type/Subtype: Extensions Application
-------------- ---------- -----------------------
application/octet-stream
application/pdf pdf AcroRd32
Image/GIF gif Paint Shop Pro 7 Image
message/rfc822
text/html htm,html Iexplore
text/plain txt,text TextPad
(BTW, why do two of these have no Extension or Application?)

Pass on that question, as I don't do binaries

But can answer this, since it is so obvious that my six-year-old
grandniece could figure it out.
application/pdf and Image/GIF are entries in the
"application/octet-stream" category of MIME types.
text/html and text/plain are entries in the "message/rfc822"
category of MIME types.
I hope someone will, when they tell you what you need to put
there for "CUE" files, will also tell you what category they fall
under. You seem to need a lot of help with PC type info.

• application/octet-stream
Because "application/octet-stream" really means "unknown (binary)
file type" (or "undefined MIME type"). It is the default MIME type
when the real MIME type is unknown or not defined.
It can cause problems if "application/octet-stream" is associated
with a specific application.
For example, some people may see that they are receiving .jpg files
with a MIME type of "application/octet-stream" (which happens when
the poster's computer does not know the real MIME type "image/jpeg").
So they (wrongly) associate "application/octet-stream" with their
JPEG image viewer.
Next thing, they receive a .MP3 file with a MIME type of
"application/octet-stream" (because the sender's computer does not
know the real MIME type "audio/mpeg"). When they launch the .MP3
file, their image viewer tries to open it.
Normally you should have no application for "application/octet-stream"
and let the file extension select the application.
• message/rfc822
This is the MIME type for a mail or news message, e.g. when
forwarded as an attachment (Agent's "Forward Verbatim").
If you want to, give this the two extensions eml and nws.
Those are the file extensions which Outlook Express saves
a mail or news message with.
Adding these extensions will help if you want to forward
a .eml or .nws file saved from Outlook Express. This lets
Agent know the correct MIME type.
Adding these extensions won't help with saving or launching
"message/rfc822" _attachments_ from Agent. Agent always
shows attached messages _inline_ (not as attachment icons) and
won't let you save or launch them.

Many thanks for that characteristically clear and helpful reply.
BTW, as you didn't explicitly mention it, I assume you don't handle
.CUE types?

Thanks, yes that's the one.

So if I'm downloading to my HD only, with no immediate intention of
burning a CD, then I don't really need them? Although presumably they
might also be of value in detective work on missing or inaccurate
tags?
For convenience, here's an extract from the beginning of an example
CUE file, message

I've been opening them in my text editor (and had assumed an
appropriate MIME entry would let me do that more quickly from within
Agent itself, if only I can get the syntax etc correct). But prompted
by your post, and to learn a little more, I located the relevant file
D:\AGENT\BINARIES\0100 Mozart Perahia ECO - PCtos Vol 1 CDImage01.cue
and opened it in Nero (5.592). That gave message
"Cannot open the file D:\Agent\Binaries\CDImage01.wav."
then
"An error occurred while loading the cue sheet file
'D:\Agent\Binaries\0100 Mozart Perahia ECO - PCtos Vol 1
CDImage01.cue'"
so I assume Nero expected to find *all* the associated files in same
folder. (I'd only Saved that CUE for time being.)
Anyway, I reckon I'll continue downloading them, if only for possible
reference purposes. Not yet sure what location makes most sense. Same
as the music? Separate folder, together with cover JPGs etc?

You're welcome.

As you have assumed, I don't handle .CUE types.
>How do I configure Agent 1.94 so that I can launch these CUE (text)
>files I find in binary music groups please?
Short answer - you don't. Or, at least, you
shouldn't. I did, and I regretted it - too much
actual work following that. So I stopped. ;)
Medium answer - As cyberdroog said -
Do you mean a .cue file in association with .bin
or .wav files? Such .cue files are text, but they
are intended to tell a CD burner program how to
handle the disk layout. You can just download
them along with the other files, and open it in
Nero, or whatever CD program you use.
Just don't delete them.
Long (and, maybe, better, or not) answer - Get
'Daemon Tools' at
http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/portal/index.php
- this is a CD emulator which will allow you to
set up a CD emulator in virtual memory,
so that you don't need a CD burner, for,
at least, any one CD bin-cue pair set. You can
actually set Daemon tools to be the mime-type
in Agent, and, it will work, sort-of... See
my 'short' answer above
Thanks. As you may gathered from my subsequent post, I don't need to
use them for what I now gather is their intended purpose. But I may
file them to help with 'tag detective work'.
