Have a querstion.

Under servers I have maximum # of connections set to 2, reserved set
to 1. When downloading lots of messages I get hundereds of connections
opened. See the screen shot on the link for detail. Why does this
happen? My Agent 7 is constantly opening and closing connections when
downloading and this seems like a huge waste of resources.

In the last episode of <57dpp81vi6lj7e654...@4ax.com>,
Note the "Connection closed by server" that keeps happening? Agent isn't
constantly opening and closing connections, Agent is opening connections
and your server is closing them.

The nice thing about standards, there is enough for everyone to have their own.

Astraweb allows 20 simultaneous connections. It makes no sense that it
is closing your sessions so frequently unless it's trying to shed
excess connections. You should probably set 18 max and 2 priority and
see how it goes.

Looking more closely at your log and comparing it to mine, it looks
like your account credentials on astraweb are invalid or you have
reached some kind of limit. All your errors are on the 563 port, you
are establishing a TCP connection, offering your credentials and then
the server is disconnecting you. There is no NNTP activity on the 119
ports and no articles are being downloaded.

Check your credentials on that server.
Make sure you set disconnect after 300 seconds and no keep-alive.

If you can't fix it by adjusting settings then delete and re-add the
server.

It appears that your news server (Astraweb) thinks you have too many
connections open.

Try one or both of these:

1. Remove the check-mark from the server setting
"Automatically adjust maximum connections".

This is to make sure Agent does not try using more than
your configured maximum # of connections, to see if it can
be automatically adjusted upwards.

2. Stay away from using the red octagonal button "Stop All Tasks".
Also stay away from using the black square button "Stop Task".

If you use either of these, some servers take a while to adjust
their accounting of how many connections you have open. Until the
server adjusts its accounting, it will think you have more connections
open than Agent does, and it may refuse to let connections log on to
the server.

According to this page, Astraweb offers a max of 4 connections:

That's odd their plans here http://www.news.astraweb.com/plans.html give
20 or 50 connections.

... and their root page lists 20 connections under the feature list.
