This is rather phony of you, Skirvin, since you harassed me by e-amil not long ago for speaking out in n.a.n-a.m. about Net abuse--and you got your lame and devious hide flamed as a result. Now you suddenly pop as "unbiased party". You are about as "unbiased" as the members of the Troll Gang you support, Skirvin.
>Flamewar?
Flamewar? Are you kidding? Mealy Rat Wotan has, with the possible exception of Woof Davis, been singed more than anyone in the history of USENET. He now has it in his pinhead (no pun intended) sized, malfunctioning bundle of synapses and neurons that if he rallies all the bullies and trolls who have--thanks to my efforts-- formed the "Flame Victims' Rights Committee" then I will win by a landslide. No doubt he's right. So?
You know, Skirvin, this is especially phony of you. Recently, I spoke out in n.a.n-a.m about being harassed, including being victimized by a forged cancel; by Coward Hage's plea that I be harassed by hate e-mail; and by Zanca's panicked shrieks that I be mailbombed. All I got from you was e-mail harassment, since of course you were nursing a grudge against me for putting you in your place on more than one public occasion. But when you e-mailed me, clearly you didn't appre- ciate my response, which was to call you the hypocrite you are. Now, that was no flame war, but it certainly was a demonstration of your bias in favor of the vicious Troll Gang.
Now, Skirvin, you pop up in a.u.k. and post on a thread that vilely insults everyone with the last name Palmer. In doing so, you join Mealy Rat Wotan's campaign to affront all sharing my distinguished last name. Frankly, even though I have criticized you in the past for your autocratic way of running n.a.n-a.m., I never would have put you in the category of being an out-and- out, dyed in the wool sewer rodent like Wotan UNTIL you posted on his offensive new thread. I challenge you to prove you are not precisely that by apologizing to everyone on the planet with the last name of Palmer.

To date, no one has claimed to be unbiased. Your assertion to the contrary is false. I suggest you post a counter-example if you wish to continue with it. (This is called 'proof by contradiction' by those of us who know logic)

So, the old hound puts his paw in his mouth again with a classic ignorant pronouncement. True, I did mention on one occasion that I saw, and was inspired by, the 1990 CYRANO DE BERGERAC film by Jean-Paul Rappeneau, starring the great Gerard Depardieu. However, I certainly did not suggest in any way that the film comprised my total understanding of Cyrano. I have also seen the 1950 version with Jose Ferrer. I think Depardieu's performance is much more stirring, although that's a matter of personal taste and I don't mean to denigrate Ferrar's Oscar winning performance. On top of that, I have of course read Rostand's 1897 drama.
Many people reading this no doubt share my above experiences, which are not at all rare. But I went a step further before styling myself "Cyrano of Cyberspace". I also read the literary studies by Theopile Gautier translated as "THE GROTESQUES". One section of that illuminating (but hard to obtain) work examines the life of the REAL Savinien Cyrano De Bergerac (1619-1655), upon whose life Rostand based his play. Although Rostand took considerable dramatic license, the historical Cyrano was every bit as colorful, poetic, and skilled with his poinard as the central character of Rostand's play.
That's the difference between us, Woof. You think that by being in Rostand's play you know every- thing there is to know about Cyrano. You know Rostand's creation, perhaps--but you have a lot to learn about the actual Savinien Cyrano de Bergerac.
You see, Woof Davis, you like to shoot off your mouth like a howitzer. When it comes to making pronouncements concerning me, though, you usually explode which great flash and thunder-- while missing by a mile and proving that you're nothing but a verbal loose cannon on the Net.

Darn it--I've de-lurked again. On behalf of quite a few students who find this quite engrossing--what's your point? With regard either to language or duelling skills, the title of "Cyrano of Cyberspace" is NOT earned!! ("I have made up demeaning names for you and claimed a flame--therefore I win.") To be the equal of this fictional giant Mr. Palmer would need rapier wit, eloquence, and a command of (in the orgingal, French, but here, English) language seldom equalled. Usenet duels are with wit and education rather than steel, but in this case it hardly matters--the outcome is quite charming.
With regard to the May KoTM, if there has not been a valid, non-combatant nomination, may I please put forth the eminent Mr. Palmer? He provides a great deal of entertainment for the Usenet community, and I would wish that he receive the recognition he deserves. (And also provides a valuable object lesson for any who would claim Cyrano's wit for their own--saying so does not _make_ it so.)

>Darn it--I've de-lurked again. On behalf of quite a few students who >find this quite engrossing--what's your point? With regard either to >language or duelling skills, the title of "Cyrano of Cyberspace" is NOT >earned!!
You are being a bit unfair. While I don't claim to be Edmund Rostand (who wrote what is in your head as "Cyrano's words") my sig quote is not nearly as far off as the pseudonym WOTAN--if you can imagine a notorious troll and general dumpster rodent taking the name of an ancient Norse god. That's IRONY!
("I have made up demeaning names for you and claimed a
>flame--therefore I win.")
Now, I'll be content to say I have met the enemy and I have flamed their collective fat asses royally. That's all.
To be the equal of this fictional giant
Like Woof, you seem to know nothing of the REAL Cyrano de Bergerac. While it is certainly a tribute to Rostand's dramatic powers that people like you confuse a fictional creation with the true person, you should not take away my right to pattern myself after the historical Cyrano. The fact is, that figure was no Villon, Racine, or Corneille; but he had a flair for poetry and he had a wonderful time writing fantastic satirical poems about trips to the moon and so on--works that ridiculed fools and made a lot of "overly puffed balloons" his enemies. He wasn't any fictional giant--and he kicked a lot of ass in his day. To know who I take my name from, read "The Grotesques", a collection of literary studies by Theoplile Gautier.
>Mr. >Palmer would need rapier wit, eloquence, and a command of (in the >orgingal, French, but here, English) language seldom equalled.
Come on! If "Mr. Palmer", the amateur USENET writer, had a "command of the English language seldom equalled" you would never read his verbal antics in this group because he would be worried sick about not getting his five to ten dollars per word. That's human nature.
>Usenet >duels are with wit and education rather than steel, but in >this case it hardly matters--the outcome is quite charming.
Thank you. As to your last clause, I certainly feel the same way.
