Waugh: home
|
| |
Hello: Does this mean the scouts/servants at Oxford did _not_ live on the premises? I remember from other novels that at least some of them did. ----- [Lunt is Ryder's scout at Oxford. Sebastian sends Ryder's flowers to his room.] Lunt was secreting the last of them in brown paper preparatory to taking them home.... more »

Waugh: there's reason in
|
| |
Hello: Is this "there's reason in" without "it" non-standard? ----- [Lunt is Ryder's scout at Oxford. |

east of north
|
| |
east of north Is this the same as "north east"? I think we rarely see such a way of expression as EAST OF NORTH in english writings these days, while I have come across one in a book written old times. And I don't find this way of phrase in dictionaries even for an example sentence as I searched.

|
| |
Hello: Does "does" in "that does for me" mean "works?" Is this standard BrE or is it dialect? --- [Nanny Hawkins talking to Ryder] '... Did you listen to Mr Mottram last night.
