I'd be happy to adopt it, it's the nearest I'm likely to come to a sheep
this year and I've told the neighbours that we've let the grass grow
deliberately in anticipation of a small flock, which will be *so*
embarrassing...

This worries me, Laura. If you let it grow too long, you'll lose the
nutritional benefit, and sheep will in any case find it difficult to
graze. I know you're going to get enough sheep by the end of the comp,
but you should consider bringing a cow or two in for a week. I'm sure
one of your neighbours will lend you a couple. Sheep will do fine after
cattle, but cattle will starve after sheep: it's a question of how
short they crop your sward.

Yeah, well, several of us are in this position. At least allowing it
to be assumed that we'd have posted the correct answers were we not
busy doing other important things is better than admitting to the
sordid reality of not having posted them simply because we couldn't
work out what they were despite hours of brain-racking. Speaking for
myself, of course. I don't have the excuse of having to do all that
professing.

Aaaaarrrgggghhhh! No, no, a thousand times no! They are the most
lovable of domesticated animals, but at the same time the most
detestable. They've got twenty-four hours a day in which to think up
ways of fucking up your life and your garden, and you haven't got
twenty-four hours a day in which to think up ways of stopping them.
Besides, only a few breeds will do well on grass.
