O/A of the hip and the operation

Hi, Can anybody help me I have osteo Arthritis in my hip its been there some
years now - I am due a hip operation in January - already been for a pre op
(a nurse tells a vague story).
I am trying to find out the precudures for this operation - I am also only
42 so I was hoping I would get a choice of hips (normal or resurface) I have
heard the resurface would be better for me - but nobodies telling me
anything - I haven't even seen a surgeon for a year. Is anybody else in the
same position as me or just had it done - please help

This one has only just shown up Alan, anyway, one of the occasional posters
( mostly lurker) had a Birmingham resurfacing a few months back. Andy is his
name and he was in South Africa, he posted because he was looking for a
cheaper place to buy whatever was needed for his op and I was able to point
him in the right direction where he was able to save a LOT of cash. anyway.
he had the op, is doing remarkably well, up and about very shortly
afterwards with only slight pain ( his words not mine). I hope he might drop

contact on other parts of the NG.

I am hoping there are some contacts out there just to put my mind at rest -
I'm only 42 and due an op soon - I have a family so i'm looking around for
the ins and outs of this op. From how long the op takes ? would I get a
choice of hip replacements? How longs the recovery. I would prefer persons
from UK but theres always a starting point.
