Welcome back to planet earth guys. Its legal issues, Coulture wants out of
the UFC, the UFC has him under contract. There will be no fight until this
is resolved, supposedly in the fall. The UFC is keeping Coulture listed as
the champ for legal reasons so that they can state in court that they have
not moved on and is doing whatever they can to uphold his contract.
>randy really should have fullfilled his contact and moved on imo<
Randy should have not negotiated the contract himself, which is what I
understand he did. He's a fighter, not a manager. OTOH, Zuffa could have
renegotiated with Couture, given how much he is worth to them and the sport.
That, though, might have set a precedent for other fighters wanting to
renegotiate their shitty contracts.
Zuffa, Dana White and the Fertitta brothers, are not paying their fighters
enough money, given how much the company is making. Fuck them. You don't
need to be in the industry to know that those guys/Zuffa are making almost
all of the money involved with the UFC. Given what they pay the fighters,
the PPV's should probably be about $20 per show (granted, that's a guess and
I pulled that # out of my ass).
exactly marcello.
IF (a really big if) Couture returns to the UFC he'll fight big Nog to
unify the belt. That's how they've done it in the past.
Coultue is overrated anyway. He had a heck of a fight against Silva, and no
question is top tier, but he was hardly a great heavyweight champion. He
only defended against Gonzaga who is questionable as a top 10, and he was
knocked out by the 205 champ prior to winning the title. Randy has had an
outstanding career, but he hardly has been dominant as a champ and its
questionable whether he would even be able to defend against Nog or a Silvia
rematch. The fact that he held out only seems like he is ducking fights
because by now he could have already had 2 more fights and cashed in, so it
can hardly be about wanting out of the UFC since the current path is taking
longer than just showing up and defending his title.
No doubt, Couture definitely has PPV appeal and is a big draw, thus should
demand a very large payday...but let's not forget, part of the reason he is
that draw is because the UFC let him come out of retirement and go straight
into a title fight. It is afterall, Couture not living up to his contract,
not the other way around. I have no sympathy for him if he gets far less
than he deserves because as I said earlier, had he finished up his UFC
contract with the 2 fights he would have been a free agent by now anyway and
could demand as much as anyone in the sport (assuming he won those fights)
but he chose to duck the fights and hold out.
If you go all the way back to the start of this mess and beleive what
the Couture camp said he decided not to fight in the UFC or defend his
belt since Zuffa failed to "get Fedor". As far as Randy was concerned
beating Fedor was the only thing he had left to do to secure his
legacy. Trying to get a matchup with Fedor is hardly "ucking".
Zuffa failed to get Fedor signed and Randy walked away. I do agree
that it was a bad move on his part, it has not served him in any way.
As a man he's seen as someone who welches on their comitments as a
fighter it makes it look like he's afraid to fight to keep his belt.
He should have stayed and fought his final two bouts while Fedor
fought circus acts and lounged around. He's too old now to make any
credible comeback I'm afraid. At this point I really hope he doesn't
try.
It was also because of the amount he found out they were
offering Fedor, which he considered disrespectful to him.
Right, but its not the UFC backing out of their end of the contract.
I don't see why not. Couture took a calculated risk that he would be able
have a shot at Fedor by retiring from the UFC. The UFC didn't back down,
and thus Randy continues to be in limbo, thus he risked and so far he has
lost. You never know, maybe he will get out of it this fall and fight by
the end of the year. I hope so.
That is exactly what I have thought Anthony. It only makes sense.
Because something doesn't make sense. Gotta be more IMO. I have a
feeling this is about 'principles'(Randys)......just happens to be no
one truly knows what the principle is except Dana and Co. and Randy
himself. Just my take
I think there are two major reasons for it. First, Couture
said that he felt disrespected when he learned how much they
were offering Couture, compared to what they were paying him.
Second, I don't think Couture wants to end his career by
losing to anyone but Fedor.
